My favourite discovery ever has just come online. Can I please tell you about some seriously wacky molecular biology? The story starts with a reverse transcriptase that SOMEHOW defends bacteria from viruses. (👇 I recommend sound ON for the video 🎹) 1/

🚨We're hiring! The Department of Biomolecular Chemistry at @UWSMPH is hiring an Assistant Professor with a focus on gene expression, RNA biology, or cellular signaling. Join our collaborative, interdisciplinary team in beautiful Madison! Apply here: tinyurl.com/yc85hrcb

While at @UWMadison, biochemist Har Gobind Khorana helped crack the genetic code, experiments that garnered him a @NobelPrize in 1968. Shortly thereafter, he synthesized the first artificial gene. The Khorana Scholar Exchange Program helps further Khorana's legacy.

The correct date of 1968 medicine laureate Har Gobind Khorana's birth is not known; but what is shown in documents is 9 January 1922. He was born in a little village in Punjab named Raipur (now eastern Pakistan). He received the #NobelPrize for his work on the genetic code.

Chair of graduate admissions for a long time, and I've seen many great candidates not do well on grad school interviews, especially URMs. Here are some thoughts I have on this to hopefully help those interviewing this year. 1/
