This is an interesting letter from HMT to the Treasury Select Committee, for a couple of reasons – and not good ones for the government. /1

The Chancellor has provided further information following her appearance before the Treasury Select Committee on Wednesday 6 November, including additional information on Agricultural Property Relief.

Please have a read… “The hill gather sales” are upon us. What we call the “draft” sales. The older girls who have given their time on the hill, sold to easier ground to produce the “mule” ewes. Trade was good, lots of great stock making nice money, BUT ⬇️

The tale of a bale of hay - doomed from the start! Cut Monday with mediocre forecast but the promise of a ☀️ “baling day” on Friday/sat. Pissed with 🌧️ Sat so just kept moving it in the promise of a 🌞 day today, all good until the baler broke down! Now baling 20% in dead air…

This apple farmer from Cheshire gives a powerful commentary regarding the loss of his apple orchards. “UK farmers are disappearing all the time. I think the UK needs to wake up a little bit and figure out why the farmers are protesting.”

Been thinking about this scene from the recent Simpsons episode. Really poignant message about recognizing the people in our lives who just want some human connection before it becomes too late. Even just remembering a birthday can mean a thousand times more for a person.

How the Simpsons got me feeling for a character who’s had like three lines across the entire series? Nevermind the crocodile thing, this was the saddest character death for me this week 😭

THREAD. A number of people have responded to this tweet that there is nothing wrong with a company a) making a profit and b) that supermarket margins are in any case low. Both of these things are true. But the supermarket sector is unlike any other. A bit of background. 1/

For those currently listening to Simon Roberts, ceo of @sainsburys at the city food and drink lecture, talking about the way the company has protected consumers from inflation, the company made £690 million profit to Apr 2023

This is a heartbreaking letter pinned to the door of a fabulous butcher's shop in Newark. It has traded for over 170 years but has been forced to close for the reasons so eloquently expressed. I'm not ashamed to admit that it made me weep.

Please spare 3 mins to watch this heart searching video of the effects TB has on a farmer and family. @WelshGovernment’s policies of doing nothing for TB are contributing hugely to this. Thank you @richrobscows1 for recording this but please don’t suffer alone, we are all here…

I’m not ashamed to say i shed a tear 😪 when i was in the house at dinner time, please try and put up with me for the whole video 😬🐄🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Have swapped our shop to @Morrisons because of the option to search for British produce only. Still work to do but love the function and so happy we can be safe knowing they won't swap our selection for lower standard options. Thanks to the lobbying from @NFUtweets

Passed the time at a 4th birthday party this morning asking other parents their best guess re farming’s contribution to UK GHGs (I’m that guy). As always, answers from 50-70%! ‘But that’s what feels right based on all the negative media coverage’. It’s 10% people!

Thank you to everyone who has supported my map illustrations this year. As a small thanks I'd like to give one person a map print of their choice from the selection available on my website. Simply RT if you'd like to take part, and I'll pick a winner at random on New Years Day 🗺️
