I am pretty sure if it was a gold lode or a placer deposit. Many of them are going to dig their own trenches. Then they will die in their own dogged trenches. Unfortunately, Khovd infuelencer discovered uranium there. Hhaha what a #mandess.

An interesting little desktop sandbox model using a cool (temperature) HONEY detachment. This makes a very extreme piggyback basin bounded by backthrusts at front and rear. I haven’t tried to gel one of these (obviously) and you have to move quick because of the sand’s density.

In 1271, Genghis Khan's grandson, Kublai Khan, named his dynasty Yuan(元朝) which means "origin of the universe". The name first attested in the famous Chinese book of Yì Jīng, literal meaning, "Classic of Changes". The Yuan dynasty in Chinese history lasted from 1279 to 1368.

Subduction zones are difficult to start in Atlantic-type oceans. Our paper explores the alternative mechanisms of invasion, in which a subduction zone migrates from a dying ocean to a new growing ocean. Here's the main figure of the paper. doi.org/10.1130/G51654… #geology

Simple extensional transfer zone model sliced into serial sections. The main idea is that the transfer zone in the middle of the basin is less faulted/folded, with fault blocks and anticlines plunging away from it. The middle sections visibly lack significant structural features.

Excellent paper by Robert Stern, Taras Gerya and Paul Tackley opening the doors for a new tectonic world. Plate tectonics is only one of many modes in which planets can operate. These modes also represent different evolutionary steps. agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/20… #geology #tectonics
