I can’t even look at this without it sending a seismic wave of grief through me. My husband will be 60 tomorrow, and I will be 50 at the end of the month, and we have given up on the idea of grandchildren. It’s just too painful to think about. A lot of millennials and younger

I know a huge number of people in their 60s and 70s with one grandchild at most. Many with zero. These people had 3-4 kids of their own, and they assumed their kids would do the same. They planned for 10-15 grandkids at this age. Not for me to judge, but it’s sad to see.

💯 Love this post on “info finance”. Prediction markets are an early special case of info finance - the use of markets to create distillations of more expensive mechanisms (eg predictions of voting outcomes). Multiple generalizations. At scale a possible revenue stream for AIs.

A series of threads by @evan_van_ness summarizing the posts I wrote on the future of ethereum tech

ETHEREUM ROADMAP EXPLAINER FOR THE REST OF US, part 3 Welcome back, we will again attempt to dumb down Vitalik's blog post on "the Scourge" to the level that even an English major can understand it. Vitalik was reaching for a rhyme with the Merge and the Surge, and scourge is…

Very excited to see this: a National Geographic documentary about one of the biggest frauds in social science—the Stanford Prison Experiment. Based on all the new evidence. Thibault Le Texier in particular deserves major credit for his work uncovering the truth.

I'll tell you this one right now. Most companies are breathtakingly inefficient. Because no one gets fired for doing what "we have always done". Because boomer middle managers hate engineers, and most their interactions with them are for the purpose of micromanaging them or…

Someone should do a rigorous (Jim Collins, Good To Great, level) study on how @elonmusk gets so much done. Lots of theories on this, I suspect most of them incomplete or totally inaccurate. Important question for civilizational progress.

Satoshi Nakamoto wrote code that was not usual. He had many quirks. We can find him by comparing his code with others, but no one did that yet. When I first saw their code, I thought "Satoshi is not a programmer" because of how weird it was. He didn't follow normal code…

I don’t know how you could look at this and see anything other than the fact that the United States is subsidizing drug production for the rest of the world

Let’s say a scientist invents a product that costs $5 per unit to mass produce—just five bucks for the raw materials and the direct labor costs of manufacturing it. What’s a fair price to charge? Should she be allowed to charge $10, for a 50% gross margin? What about charging…
