29/30 local farmers in my area are affected according to a partner at a local accountancy firm that deals with them. The policy is conceptually good but mis-targeted, requires nuance to target the land grabbers and not the farmers.

Our public services are broken.  The Government is asking rich estates and the most valuable farms to pay their fair share. Small family farms will not be affected. Only about 500 estates a year will pay more under the new scheme than they do today. telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/…

The average farmer earns £21k - £50k. For that, he's up and out all weather's, at 4am and to bed at 9pm, 7 days a week, 364 days a year. If animals are ill, or being born, he will work around the clock. I know farmers, and its gruelling. That they're sat on land, that happens…

This mentality is inane. Walk a mile in these guys shoes. My job is tough, it drives me to my mental limit and essentially work 7 day weeks. I couldn’t do what a farmer does, these guys are work horses

This is dark, man.

Seriously, this is something else. It will soon be possible to be a graduate on minimum wage in the UK and face a 37% marginal tax rate (20% income tax, 8% NI, plus 9% uni fees repayment). Throw in auto-enrolment at 5% and 6% loan repay for postgrads and it's 48%

Bros a fruitcake, that was an assault runner 😭😭

Formula 1 driver Valtteri Bottas decided to do an Ironman (at home) during his off week. • 11 hours • 7,000 calories burned He did the swim portion in his pool and then used a peloton and indoor treadmill for the bike and run. What a madman.

This is crazy

This was obvious no?

This is House of Cards stuff… Pelosi's plan was for a blitz primary, but Biden endorsed Kamala in his drop out letter as a big “fuck you” to the Democrats for forcing him out. That’s why Obama, Schumer, etc were all so late to endorse her. They didn't want her.

Supermarkets are a modern miracle. A triumph of capitalism. It's a brutally difficult business to be in. Huge amounts of inventory that will be worthless unless they can sell it tomorrow. Massive fixed costs to build and maintain stores. Complex supply chains stretching…

Sainsburys Group makes £35 billion in revenue a year. This is less than 0.5% of that, grow up

We think that all memory is stored in the brain. But our study published today in @NatureComms shows that all cells—even kidney cells—can count, detect patterns, store memories, and do so similarly to brain cells. My first (co)corresponding author paper!🧵nature.com/articles/s4146…

When I was the director of cancer services in west London, we included a smoking room in the cancer centre that we built. The press were shocked and asked why we would ever allow smoking in a cancer facility. I replied that, for people who are lifelong smokers, if they’re having…

On both sides of the political divide we have indulged behaviour like this, and allowed people to become entitled in their rudeness. Hopefully we can start treating each other like humans again 🤞

2 factors - job market requirements (now changing) - secondary school / college certainly 10-13 years ago were anti skilled labour and very much encouraged university rather than learning a trade. For a good % of people a degree is economically useless

The Telegraph reports on new data I've obtained, showing that nearly a million graduates have never earned enough to repay any of their student loans. They list seven institutions where a third have never made a repayment. (1/2) telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/11/0…

All the hot takes on America will be based on ideology for the next few weeks. People need some introspection on their own politics, and need to understand why individuals feel the way they do rather than neglecting the reality.

Colin gets it, people are not stupid.

The Democrats lied about Biden's mental capacity for months/years, parachuted in an untested replacement without primaries or competition, have overseen a flagging economy, supported multiple wars and neglected too many of its own citizens. 'The other guy is bad' doesn't cut it.

Imagine a parent with 3 children, an undergraduate degree, and a postgraduate loan on 60k gets promoted and earns a 20k salary increase. Their employer now pays an extra £23k for their salary (inc employer NICs), but the employee gets just £4600 of this. HMRC gets £18400.

77% if you've got a postgrad loan, you have 3 kids and you earn 60k.

100% I’ve worked 44/46 days since September 17. To keep us running as multiple people have been sick and naturally people on holiday. My avg working week has been 75-80 hours. Will wait for the uninformed opinions how I’m a dreadful person by people who have no idea

Unwise rant: to those expressing unqualified opinions on running a business. 🤬 (This is NOT directed at all employed people, only those expressing unqualified opinions). It’s very frustrating to read endless business opinions from people who have never run a business and or…
