PACHINO DAY "Seventy-seven years ago, on 10 July 1943, The Royal Canadian Regiment landed at Pachino in the opening waves of the Allied invasion of Sicily, Operation HUSKY. The regiment was part of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division under the British Army."

A photo of Canadian soldier, lieutenant Alexis Helmer, in 1912. Helmer would die at the 2nd Battle of the Ypres in Belgium on May 2nd, 1915. His close friend Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae would write a poem about his death the following day. “In Flanders Fields”.

We lost 158 brave Canadians in Afghanistan and we’ve lost another 50 since then. Let us remember our most recent veterans and hold their families in our heart as we do those who preceded them. They are all heroes and deserve our continued remembrance and support.
