Wow! Cold FEG + Falcon 4 + RELION = 1.22 Å of apoferritin. Great for #CFAR, but what's more impressive is the reconstruction of β3 GABAA receptor with regions resolved to ~1.6 Å! Congrats @SjorsScheres & colleagues! What a day for the #cryoEM community biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Topaz v0.2.3 is out! Thanks to all the testers and developers who helped get Topaz to where it is today. The update adds the general denoising models in the Topaz-Denoise preprint, a pre-trained picking model, & an updated GUI. cb.csail.mit.edu/cb/topaz/ emgweb.nysbc.org/topaz.html

We present our Topaz-Denoise paper on general denoising models for cryoEM. We show 1) Small/low density views may be identified, 2) Shorter exposures may be used, increasing throughput, 3) Protein fragments/contamination are differentiated from background biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

The NIH #cryoEM national service centers focus on: 1) collecting high resolution data and 2) increasing users of cryoEM by cross-training laboratories established in other fields.  Engage with us at #MM2019Portland to see how we can help advance biomedical research together.

Cool

Unpacking our Chameleon (a next generation sample prep instrument for cryo-EM, which is based on Bridget Carragher's "Spotiton"). Thanks to HHMI's 2019 Transformative Technology Competition. Can't wait to try it out!

We present Topaz Denoiser, a method for denoising cryoEM images based on Noise2Noise. A pre-trained model that takes only a few seconds to denoise an image on a GPU is included, or you can train your own model. Topaz v0.2.1 is available for free here: github.com/tbepler/topaz

We release a Topaz GUI and several updates: github.com/tbepler/topaz Topaz is a novel deep learning particle picker that can pick any shape & size particle, e.g. all orientations of the particles in the logo. The GUI works on modern web browsers; test here: emgweb.nysbc.org/topaz.html
