My excellent friend @spaceJamieJ discovered that lots of Uranus's mysterious behaviour that we've talked about for decades, based on Voyager 2s flyby, happened during really extreme solar wind conditions. It's out today here: nature.com/articles/s4155… . May be some news coverage.
I visited the Stefànik Observatory in Prague and found this display. The image in the top box is the first image of Jupiter taken by XMM-Newton. The planet's northern and southern X-ray aurorae are clearly shown in orange. My PhD supervisor was the one who produced that image 🥹
What a week in Berlin for #EPSC2024! I gave a solicited talk about Uranus, caught up with old friends, watched a planetarium show and even gave a live TV interview for BBC News about the Polaris Dawn spacewalk! Thanks to @einionyn and @MSSL_Planetary for the first 3 photos.

My 2nd ep of Unexpected Elements is now live! We talk about Matt Stutzman "The Armless Archer" who has a unique training strategy, a woman who has no fear, an octopus who shoots off an arm in his quest for a mate, space crisps & the end of @ESA_Cluster bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3c…
Jupiter looking fine in infrared and X-rays 😍

And that's a wrap for MOP 2024! Thank you to the organisers for a great time.
It was such a pleasure to help cook up this programme. Bon appétit! bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3c…
A great day of discussions and poster presentations at the Outer Planet Moon-Magnetosphere Interactions workshop, at @DIASDunsink today, followed by a trip to the Hill of Tara #DIASMoons24
Tick tock! There's still time but it's running out. Some breathtaking images have arrived since the weekend but there are more out there. reachforthestars.ie
