My excellent friend @spaceJamieJ discovered that lots of Uranus's mysterious behaviour that we've talked about for decades, based on Voyager 2s flyby, happened during really extreme solar wind conditions. It's out today here: nature.com/articles/s4155… . May be some news coverage.


I visited the Stefànik Observatory in Prague and found this display. The image in the top box is the first image of Jupiter taken by XMM-Newton. The planet's northern and southern X-ray aurorae are clearly shown in orange. My PhD supervisor was the one who produced that image 🥹
