Excellent article from ⁦@thetimes⁩ ⁦@dsmitheconomics⁩ on the NI economy. David was in Belfast meeting with a number of ⁦@BarclaysCIB⁩ clients who outlined their growth (as well as some challenges). Well worth a read. thetimes.co.uk/article/c7c439…

"Northern Ireland, attracted 39 greenfield FDI projects in 2022. Ireland and the US were key source markets for FDI into Northern Ireland. Combined, these two countries accounted for more than half (56%) of inbound investments in the region. investmentmonitor.ai/insights/uk-in…

They say you should never meet your heroes - I have to disagree - Jurgen Klopp is a legend. #LFC

From today’s FT: “the really striking thing on the chart isn’t London - it’s Northern Ireland. Thanks to the NI Protocol…it’s the only part of the UK outside London with GDP above pre-pandemic levels. NI’s relative economic success is because of its partial opt-out from Brexit.”

In a lot of NI the 'parental choice' over the next few years will not be between a state school or a Catholic school, but an integrated school or no school. Although no doubt we'll stagger on, at great expense, a while yet: the duplication figures here are from a 2015 study.

Duplication of rural schools on religious lines ‘unsustainable’ belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/education…

The answer is “absolutely”. A properly crafted GCSE would be a massive help in addressing the chronic shortage of IT skills. Also needed is a re-boot of our outdated careers advice - too many young people are getting pushed into low wage/low opportunity sectors. @newsmulg

Should we have more mandatory IT in our classrooms? belfasttelegraph.co.uk/business/ulste…

“It's time to focus on outcomes, not legal precedent or self-interest. Let's see the people of NI being put first…It’s undeniable that there’s real competitive advantage for the NI economy if agreement on the Protocol is reached quickly.” Well said @angela_mcgowan @CBI_NI

Angela McGowan: When we say “make the Protocol work” what do we actually mean? @CBI_NI irishnews.com/business/2021/…

Well said Andrew and Oisin. Our segregated education system is broken - it’s massively expensive and fails too many of our young people. Can we get you in to run the Dept of Education?

'Religion and education, I don't know why they're aligned' - Sports stars Andrew Trimble and Oisin McConville back more integrated schooling in Northern Ireland bbc.in/3fpknVn

Usual great analysis by ⁦@NewtonEmerson⁩. NI’s education system needs massive reform to remove wastage and duplication, as well as overcoming forced segregation of children. irishtimes.com/opinion/newton…

Really is time to re-ignite the debate and have another look at this.

N Ireland looks to its own corporation tax in wake of Budget on.ft.com/2O3rbNm

Definitely time to re-ignite the debate over reducing corp tax in NI. Corporate profits will have fallen significantly over the past year, so the cut to the block grant would be a lot more manageable. irishnews.com/paywall/tsb/ir…

Delighted to see ⁦@UlsterUni⁩ call this out. “The Dept of Education is, in effect, bankrolling the structural, ethnic separation of education”. Time for change. bbc.com/news/uk-northe…

Forgotten how good he was. What a player.

Well done @NicholaMallon This is a long overdue investment to fix one of the most dangerous roads in NI.

Infrastructure Minister @NicholaMallon today announced that the A1 Junctions Phase 2 road improvement scheme will progress. Details at infrastructure-ni.gov.uk/news/infrastru…

Can’t help thinking if NICS sorted its staff sick days problem, it wouldn’t have to incur these costs bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northe…

Absolutely shocking that NI civil service have still not tackled this issue - and it’s getting worse. NI now 30% worse than Eng. No excuse, especially at a time when the private sector is hurting so much. belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/northern-…

This is a very significant and welcome announcement from NIHE - should mean a massive refurb programme of existing homes as well as new build, all of which will help NI meet our net zero targets.
