Email marketing is not retention. Retention is a strategy and email is a channel to execute the strategy.
Why go multi-channel? Because: Not everyone is active on email. Not everyone likes messages on their phone. Not everyone is receptive to push notifications. Not everyone proactively opens the direct mails. Goal is to engage majority of subscribers and not just reach them.
The shelf life of a campaign email and a flow email is the same. It is just that the flow goes out to new audiences on auto-pilot so the same email is way more effective whereas, campaigns don't go out automatically to new audiences.
