Problem is pure political. People learn culinary dishes, dressing attire, love places, temples, movies- many aspects of culture. Cos that is quite engaging and meaning making in a metro. But language is not easy to learn in a corporate setup. Thus politics find this cleavage.
It isn’t “disrespectful”. Seems quite needy and insecure for someone to want someone else to learn their language to feel “respected”. Learning the local language makes your life easier etc. , and that’s reason enough to pick up phrases; but shouldn’t make it about “respect”.
