Getting increasingly frustrated by across-the-industry lack of engagement from senior management with rife burnout of junior staff. Stop asking your heads of departments how the people they manage are; get out there and ask the people themselves. And make linkedin.com/posts/the-book…

Ok book twitter, I know spooky season has passed, but what are your favourite haunted house novels? The absolute classics, the modern classics, the ones you'd recommend to everyone. (Other than Shirley Jackson, obviously.) Thanks! 👻

I love writing this, and I hope that it is received exactly as intended. I would not have been able to write this without the incredible support I’ve received and the love that surrounds me. If this one resonates with you, I see you and you are not alone💖 thebookseller.com/comment/fighti…

Too many lines here where @hannahknowl3s absolutely nails it to pick out just one. A vital read on publishing, disability and burnout

Never written a piece for @thebookseller before, but this felt necessary to be open about. Why, despite my love of books, I remain ambivalent about the industry thebookseller.com/comment/inconv…

Where Philip Pullman tells 3 women of colour what they should & shouldn’t find offensive. Anyone else going to speak up?

If you look hard enough, you'll find something to be offended by in every book ever published. A better way of reading is to see the whole picture, the tendency of the entire book. Clanchy's book is humane, warm, decent, generous, and welcoming.

I am less concerned by an author using racist language at this point, and more perturbed by the publishing team that didn’t spot it, the awards that celebrated it, and the white authors defending it and invalidating people of colour who are upset by it.
