Ruben Dias isn’t elite. But you appreciate how valuable his CCB profile is when you play without him. A defensive organiser, box defender & a natural backline leader. That profile is invaluable to a defensive unit regardless of other weaknesses.

Gvardiol has been elite all season, has 3 bad games in succession because he’s injured/tired. He is not a squad building issue, the guy is the best LCB of his generation. He’s one of the few players nobody should be mentioning in a bad light.

City messed up their squad building imo. Too many players past their prime (Silva, Gundogan) or young making mistakes (Lewis, Gvardiol)

Kyle Walker is done, it’s over.

This is the best version of Foden, in a SS role behind another CF.

In the 3-4-3 diamond, Phil Foden needs to be at the tip of it, just behind Erling Haaland. The system favours him the most. He can be the secondary goal-threat, operating off of Haaland’s gravity. That’s the way to solve a lack of KDB, just multiple goal-threats & gravity.

This 3-1-6 system maximises Foden the most out of any player. Places him in a AM/SS role that I profile him as. Enables him to be fluid BTLs & invade gaps/holes Haaland’s gravity creates. Also minimises the distances between his teammates for him to combine, masks his range.

You maximise Phil Foden the most in the LHS — both for goal-scoring & creative reasons. It helps with the slight left foot bias he has, it opens up the most optimal angles of the pitch he can operate at.

If you’re not a space eater off of the ball, at least be able dominate/duel in your own zone/space. Rodri has it. It’s not an elite defensive skillset but you can at least compensate for it by adding another partner/compacting lines. Our next signing needs to have that, minimum.

Rodri is our best dueller/defender in midfield. Whether it’s defending 2nd/loose balls, aerial duels or his ability to dominate HIS zone, with his stature/legs. We need another one in there that can also play with him. Bruno Guimaraes is still our man.

Man City games with 5+ non-penalty "big chances" conceded: • 2019-20: 1 • 2020-21: 1 • 2021-22: 1 • 2022-23: 2 • 2023-24: 0 • 2024-25: 2 (in 10 games)

I’ve said it before we even dropped points, our athleticism is shit. Our midfield is invisible, nobody that can dominate space or win duels.

Our greatest demise will be transitions & quick breaks because our athleticism sucks. We have an old, slow & small midfield who struggle to dominate space out of possession. Opposition basically have a clear path to our last line, thank god we have Gvardiol.

Savio has similar 1vs1 qualities to Riyad Mahrez that enable success in small space dribbling. Similar body/ball manipulation, changes of rhythm & mechanics that initially allows him beat his man 1vs1. The difference is Savio has a much better engine, for gaining separation.

What makes Savio so dangerous is his incredible creative range, basically how many solutions/ways he can create. Whether it’s him consistently dominating his zone, repeatedly winning 1vs1s over small & large distances, his ability to carry both ways or his creative passing.

I’ll never be too concerned about our lack of creativity as long as Savio is on the pitch, has so many creative tools. Constantly generates threat/chances when he’s on the pitch, can spearhead/control attacks. Our most creative outlet when KDB isn’t on the pitch.

The future of football is left-footed. Per @fbref, 344 outfield players born in 2001 or later have played 270+ minutes in Europe's Big Five Leagues this season. 15 of those players are averaging 5+ Shot-Creating Actions per 90 minutes... 11 of them are left-footed.

We have enough space to add 1 extra attacker into this squad. Currently, we only have 5 (Doku, Grealish, Haaland, Savio & Bobb) when ideally you want 6 for squad depth. I like the dynamics of our wing pairings, so probably calls for a backup CF. Get me Evan Ferguson.

Our team lacks so much verticality, whether it’s runners, passers or territory gainers. That’s something that gets exposed the most against the big sides, with more space behind defences to work with.
