Well, DFO has spent billions of 🇨🇦 $ on salmon "enhancement" activities over 4 decades, so much that commercial fisheries are almost non-existent, stocks are not well, FN's fishers have little to go on, yet the recreational fishery still has uncontrolled access 🤪. Farm them!

Reading an excellent book on #Innovation by @mattwridley This quote on switching to compact fluorescent bulbs pretty much sums up for me the Canadian governments policy on salmon farm "transition" which is pretty much as anti-innovation as you can get. #cdnpoli #aquaculture

True, Aquaculture IS Agriculture the World over, according to UNFAO "the farming of aquatic organisms"... except for 🇨🇦? @CFAFCA @Agproudmary @SenatorRobBlack
We are pleased to share our letter to federal, provincial and territorial ministers of agriculture and aquaculture in advance of their respective summer meetings. Aquaculture is Agriculture! bit.ly/3XVVlDZ
The five-year transition period to land imposed on British Columbia's salmon farmers by the federal government is not realistic or fair to those who rely on them for jobs and their community's well-being. Like and share our graphic if you agree! biv.com/news/resources…
Press Release re: Major concerns on Govt decision to ban open net pen salmon farms from BC coastal waters by 2029. @CDNaquaculture #cdnpoli This will undermine the future of a critical #cdnag industry and have ripple effects on food security & economy. shorturl.at/rrQqU
“As a party of science it’s difficult to understand how we haven’t followed our own scientists’ recommendations. As a party of Reconciliation we are imposing an impossible timeline on coastal #FirstNations communities…” - says @liberal_party Wayne Long. nationalpost.com/news/politics/…
Thank you to Saint John MP Wayne Long who is a refreshing voice for sanity in the Liberal caucus and someone who actually understands #aquaculture and #salmonfarming - his statement posted on FB today #cdnpoli
The government’s opposition to aquaculture, an industry that prevents the clearing of the seas by massive trawlers & which provides millions with health, sustainable, food, and which is led by indigenous people, is one of its biggest own goals. Smh. Good on you, Wayne Long.

“The idea that 70,000 tonnes of BC salmon can be produced on land in five years is unrealistic and ignores the current capabilities of modern salmon farming technology.” #salmonfarming seawestnews.com/salmon-farmers…
All salmon farms in BC operate under the authority of a host First Nation. These Nations support wild salmon rejuvenation, establishing an Indigenous-led blue economy, enhancing social & ecological well-being, and providing food security for all.
“There’s over 500 full-time jobs in First Nations communities related to this sector. Simply saying that these jobs are gone in five years, without any meaningful transition in place to fill those gaps, is just going to be disastrous.” theglobeandmail.com/business/artic…
Death of another resource industry: the decision to force the West Coast salmon fishing industry to take its pens out of the water will kill it. The return on investment does not justify spending the billions needed to build on-land facilities. nationalpost.com/opinion/trudea…
