This is why it literally never works for me.

Something deeply sinister about in-flight WiFi. Violates the separation of powers between Land and Sky. Don’t like it

People always make the economic argument but never the quality argument. Film is bad because the people making the films don't have talent. And the people who enter film schools and get big deals don't belong there The whole thing is rotten. The entire instiution

Kevin Smith on the state of movie theaters.

I remember the load-bearing words of a former Marine in my art school creative writing class: “you can try to subvert me all you want, I’ll subvert you back by not engaging”

People talking about 1-5 year success paths. Life at the frontier is a 10+ year process. “Where do you see yourself in a year?” In the exact same spot doing my thing until the world catches up.

I used to be like this. “Transformers? Good movie. Aliens? Good movie. Venom and Eternity? Good movie.”

Being a movie simpleton rocks. All my movie buff friends give me good movies to watch and I’m like “yep, confirmed another good movie”

Love the coinage of “audience-indulgent.”

Love this little bit from Stephanie Zacharek's Megalopolis review

Trying to orient myself around the take of "AGI is the next evolutionary step"... If I found out God was a kind of seemingly stupid little guy that I could crush with my foot, I would find it endearing and protect him, because he created me. This seems logical to me.

*Taps the sign*

Can’t wait for cinephile directors to have to contend with the AI cinema question. You can be a celluloid fetishist but the base medium behind it is the projection of moving images by light. You either have a vision for that or you don’t.

Glad I've already clocked having directed a movie the old-school way.

If you think OpenAI Sora is a creative toy like DALLE, ... think again. Sora is a data-driven physics engine. It is a simulation of many worlds, real or fantastical. The simulator learns intricate rendering, "intuitive" physics, long-horizon reasoning, and semantic grounding, all…

In my career as a director I would like to attempt a Kubrickian conquest of genre.
