Communication in traditional organizations consists of direction down and reporting up. As a result information follows those same comms channels. In healthy organizations information flows without barriers everywhere. It is not channeled or controlled.
People who are treated as followers have the expectations of followers and act like followers. As followers, they have limited decision-making authority and little incentive to give the utmost of their intellect, energy, and passion. Our expectations become their reality.
When we fall short, we find external reasons for the short comings. When others fall short, we blame them and infract internal reason for the short comings.
I asked Scottie tonight about how he balances the desire to compete with not making it his entire identity. His answer was tremendous.
