On the bright side, we now have an answer to the Fermi Paradox
Of course I can fix your computer, Dad! I'm a computer scientist, I know computers. A computer can be formally defined as a 7-tuple M=⟨Q, Γ, b, Σ,δ,q₀,F⟩, where... Dad?

Burn out is not a result from working too hard, but a result from not having enough wins.
sometimes i feel super grateful that some moments of my childhood are documented
The India BJP wants is being slowly manifested in Gujarat. Muslims forcibly segregated, ghettoized and deprived of public goods. Non-veg food banned. Health and education underinvested in so the poor masses can live in indignity, forced to work at some of the lowest wages.
#Palitana, in #Gujarat's #Bhavnagar, became the world's first city where non-veg is illegal after #Jain monk protests closed 250 butcher shops. This honors Gandhi's vegetarian vow and aligns with regulations in Rajkot and Junagadh. Read more toi.in/2JyQ5b
It's insane how they're being so prompt about the no dues, and requesting us to collect alumni cards before the actual degree. Complete disregard for students' careers
We, the graduating class of 2024 from IISER Bhopal, are facing severe issues regarding our convocation ceremony: 1️⃣Ignored concerns: Despite our polite emails, phone calls were dismissed with rude remarks, prioritizing the chief guest's availability over student needs.
Last year we were done with the convocation before this date. This year we don't even have an email acknowledging it.
IISERB Admin (when helping students): I sleep IISERB Admin (when actively making student life miserable): real shit I thought the quicker the college gets rid of its outgoing batch the better it is for both the students and the institute. Ig IISERB does not think the same. A🧵

Our theses were due Apr 30, results declared 5 June, no-dues initiated in June. Despite being patient + polite in our requests, we are receiving no consideration for our future prospects, money, or time with no official communication even explaining the delay in degree-awarding.

To add on to that the admin has been extremely unclear in its communication, whilst students are facing the brunt of an extremely slow no dues process. While students are expected to be all prim and proper, the admin has no accountability towards its student body?

This is a long thread for a chapter-by-chapter review and a reading guide for volume 1 of Polchinski’s book on string theory. Familiarity with the basics of QFT and GR is required (you will need these pre-requisites to read the book anyway) 1/69 #physics #scicomm
if i had an eigenvector for every time i heard this joke
Did you know that the 200 Swiss Franc bill has an image of a particle collider experiment? You can see a collision and the signals of the resulting particles in the detector in a typical "event display". Really beautiful but unfortunately not very common in everyday life.
*sits down to write phd thesis* *cracks knuckles* "okay, I think it's finally time to learn string theory"
So far this whole ”applying for a PhD in theoretical physics” phase of my life has not been the best experience ✨ can’t wait for the waiting & doubts to be over
Chandrasekhar on the Kerr solution for a rotating black hole.
I just felt the need to marvel momentarily at the equation for a rotating black hole.
