Thrilled to see this special issue sciencedirect.com/journal/rangel… come out tackling the future of proactive sagebrush conservation, and extra excited to have led a paper looking at how much more conservation we need to do to reverse sagebrush biome loss sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

The semester starts tomorrow. Yes, encourage students to come to office hours, but also remember to give them examples of why students have gone:

New paper! Species-agnostic models are handy when we don't have the species-specific data we need to model functional connectivity. We build off of McGarigal et al 2018 to measure 'ecological connectivity', which merges many species-agnostic approaches bit.ly/4b6AMIe

I’ve handled the review of > 1000 papers at @nature Over time, you notice aspects of presentation on which reviewers tend to comment. In the interests of minimizing hassles during review, I offer the following suggestions (a bit targeted to climate papers).

Friends don't let friends make bad charts! Chenxin Li, pulled together a lot of great advice for data visualization, with clear "do this, not that" examples for each item. Here are a few of my favorites, see the link below for more.

When I got overwhelmed with requests for letters of reference for graduate studies, I created a form that I ask students to complete so that I can write a great letter. Here's mine -- adapt and use as you like!

Update on the @WUSM_BMB junior faculty search. We received 135 applications, and had an 11 member search committee go through them all. Each application was read by 3 faculty and scored. We then selected 14 for Zoom interviews and sent them the questions below ahead of time. 1/

As an academic writing coach, here are the 7 mistakes I see supervisors and PIs make in the process of co-writing a paper with their PhD students or mentees. A thread. 🧵 #AcademicChatter #newPI #PhDchat

Love all of these!

In academia, there is always work to do. So, I've developed some rules that help me maintain my peace in this busy career. 1/4 1. No meetings on Mondays. -Mondays for me are for catching up on work and e-mails. This helps me feel productive at the beginning of every week.
