I had the chance to visit Aqar Quf (Dur-Kurigalzu) earlier this year. I was in awe at the reed mats built into the ziggurat, placed every 7th mudbrick layer. Though ancient, they appear as if from yesterday! Unfortunately many parts of the site are in urgent need of conservation.

Our volunteers at #Idalion are hard at work inventorying the many botanical samples from over the years. This is part of our ongoing initiative to digitize our legacy data. The samples will be all ready to be sent off for anthracological analysis!

The 2024 dig season at #Idalion Cyprus is off to a HOT start, but at least we have some shade! Setting up the RTK and digital recording went off without a hitch. Feels great to be back after a 7 year hiatus. (Unfortunately, our cacti are suffering from the invasive mealybug.)

In archaeology we like to think of landscapes as palimpsests. Never have I felt this so palpably and affectively, in seeing these traces of commitments to struggle for better futures and liberation. Solidarity with our incredible, principled students.

The new edition of the Chicago Manual of Style (CMS 18) comes out this September. And I just heard: PLACE OF PUBLICATION WILL NO LONGER BE REQUIRED IN CITATIONS AND BIBLIOGRAPHY ENTRIES! 🎉🥳🙌 This was my number 1 wish for the new edition. I am thrilled! #AcademicWriting

So sad to hear of María Eugenia Aubet's passing. Her memory will live on in our continued work at Cerro del Villar, where her vast contribution set the foundation for our renewed investigations. RIP, María Eugenia.

Today, Phoenician-Punic scholars everywhere are in mourning for one of the towering figures in our community. However, María Eugenia Aubet's legacy will live on in the field for which she did so much, and in the memory of so many who started in it by reading her magistral works.

First day of excavation at #Nippur 2024, excavating near the city wall in the south suburbs, to examine the density of settlement and the nature of houses and households: wealthy suburbanites or lower class laborers? Surface cleaned; lots of potential.

Between my friend Marta's amazing work supervising at @cerrodelvillar_, she demonstrated how to make a tablet! How cool!

Ever wonder how cuneiform tablets were formed from clay? Produced in the field at one of ISAC’s current excavations in Málaga, Spain, PhD candidate Marta Díaz Herrera shows how an ancient Babylonian student would have formed a lenticular clay tablet,

Sometimes archaeologists need bigger tools than a pick ⛏️! I'm very happy with our progress preparing for next week's excavations at @cerrodelvillar_ ☺️

I'm excited to return for another season at Cerro del Villar! Today, we made a lot of progress preparing our excavation areas. My first time supervising a backhoe was a success 💪🏼

Gotta love how old dig cars overheat on the highway ☀️🥵 (I'm pretty sure the dirt on the windshield is 6 years old...) #archaeologylife

Last year in Alampra, I spotted this olive press at the edge of the village below the roadside. It's nice to find it now moved next to the church in the village center for all to enjoy! Μπράβο to whoever reported/moved it ☺️
