As a youth sports coach my #1 priority is making amazing humans who will strive to live a bountiful and beautiful life. How good of a soccer player they are is simply icing on top. These are my priorities..if you’re a youth coach are they yours???
If you can build your internal, mental life around: • being aware of your thoughts and feelings • being present with the process • staying connected to your values and those around you You have the recipe for a healthy psychology and a life well-lived.
The 5 recovery strategies I recommend to all elite performers: • Sleep well • Find time to play • Move your body • Eat well • Spend time with people you care about

This episode of @AdamMGrant new podcast, Re-thinking, with @AlexHonnold is a 44-minute master class in the science of peak performance as told by one of the best in the world at his craft. The lessons you can learn from the world’s best free climber to apply in your own life:
Nobody should struggle in silence. We're all in this together to break the stigma against mental health. TY @DukeFH and @UVAFieldHockey for coming together to create this powerful video. The teams will be dedicating their game tonight to Morgan’s Message. 💙😈 X 🦋 X ⚔️🧡
It’s #WorldMentalHealthDay a day to make mental health care a global priority! Grateful for our partners who came together for College Football & student-athlete MH Week, although this incredibly powerful week has come to an end-taking care of your mental health is perpetual! 🧵
Professionalization and monetization of our children. This is all so horrific top to bottom.
“You have to speak out … you have to take that risk, because it’s about your child’s life, not about the fact they get the chance to play a few more extra minutes in a soccer game.” — @cbrennansports on how parents can protect young kids in youth sports. gma.abc/3rvPpQK
The best thing a coach can do to reach their entire team? Set up a good environment.
These 2 answers from Chris Holtmann and Ryan Day in back-to-back days stood out to me on the type of coaches Ohio State has in football and basketball. Coaching is "teaching and counseling" and "normalizing struggle." That's the type of person you want leading young men. @OSU_AD
I haven’t retired though 💖 just working on my mental health.
My daughter learned that @Simone_Biles retired today and she has cried literally for the last hour.
Want to build your confidence? Start by: • Reflecting on your past successes • Focusing on leveraging your strengths rather than mitigating your weaknesses • Talk to yourself like a helpful coach • Write down what works for you every day
So proud of all these amazing chapters of Morgan’s Message — from high school to college, from coast to coast — you are all inspiring🦋

Must read for all parents with youth in sports. Stats and facts that paint a clear picture of the current state of youth sports. Not totally reformable but no doubt that support and help can be provided to parents, coaches and most importantly players. Let’s make a difference!!!
I'm very compelled by @LindaFlanagan2's argument about the value of kids' sports & organized movement — but I have to admit that I'm unconvinced that they're reformable, at least here in the U.S.: annehelen.substack.com/p/are-kids-spo…
Thanks, Matt Villano, for the interview! And to clarify, it was @JenSeniorNY who observed that children have moved "from our employees to our bosses"--a reality that partly explains why we obsess over kids' sports. cnn.com/2022/09/06/hea…
Cognitive Reframing: Changing the way you think about something. This is a technique I've used to help hundreds of high performers level up their mindset. Thread:
Everybody struggles. Every team has an off day. Everyone falls down. It’s part of the path. It’s what you do next that matters. If you believe, you get up and keep going. If you doubt, you bail. Belief ➡️ Behavior

The schedules of High School soccer teams seem to prioritize burnout over development. 3-4 games in a week? Even with the best recovery practices, (which little to none employ) it’s a huge ask. And most of these kids go right into a demanding club season after…
