Biden to restart talks with Manchin after 'cooling off' period j.mp/34o4n2S (The Hill)

We can deliver on voting rights AND Build Back Better. We must. It’s not an either-or, it’s both — and it’s time.

And while the Muslim ban may have been rescinded, the impact lingers. I continued to document the struggles faced by Muslim families, diversity visa winners and chaotic limbo refugees find themselves in. (More on this later this month!) huffpost.com/entry/diversit…

This year, I dug deep into the intersection of Islamophobia and immigration. I had the honor of interviewing refugees, asylum seekers, and vulnerable folks at our borders. For one family from Tajikstan, my inquiries secured his release from detention. huffpost.com/entry/after-fl…

Leaving Schumer’s office after a meeting on Senate rules, Sen. Joe Manchin suggested he’s open to some modest rules changes. But he doesn't want to invoke nuclear option to do it. “I think the filibuster needs to stay in place, any way shape or form that we can do it,” he said.

@VP You promised so much more. #Immigration has been forgotten. The supporting #immigrants valued during elections are all sidelined now.

We promised better infrastructure to the American people and we delivered with our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. In the new year, communities will begin to see improvements in roads and bridges, public transit, and clean drinking water. whitehouse.gov/bipartisan-inf…

Schumer wanted the BBB vote before Christmas. So did Biden. Parl killed Plan C just before Christmas. So in some sense immigrants are lucky Manchin balked. Otherwise Dems woulda passed BBB with no immigrant relief. #SilverLinings

"We need immigration relief that allows for people to find certainty and stay with their families. This ultimately encourages undocumented immigrants to continue working to reach their full potential, while in turn, benefiting the whole state." ajc.com/opinion/opinio…

New statement from Congressional Hispanic Caucus Chair Ruiz on BBB "The CHC will continue to work with the Senate to use every tool and avenue within the Senate rules to include immigration reform in the final package and we remain committed to getting this bill signed into law"

Build Back Better will resurface. What we are witnessing now is a game between leadership and Manchin that allows him and corporate donors to gut the bill while everyone acts powerless. I refuse to play this game. We need to call this out for what it is.

Joe Manchin to WV radio details his rationale to oppose Build Back Better. Said he told Schumer months ago there needed to be means testing, work requirements. Said months ago he noted the bill was "very far-reaching. "We have been way far apart philosophically."

immigrant rights advocates: has anyone from @USImmHUB or @FWDus apologized to yet for getting Plan C proposal to the parl COMPLETELY wrong???

Seems like those who said there should be no infrastructure vote without a vote on BBB were right…

Schumer in a letter today says Senate will vote on BBB “to make their position known on the Senate floor, not just on television. We are going to vote on a revised version of the House-passed Build Back Better Act – and we will keep voting on it until we get something done.”

sara.1988 Reposted

This is why progressives were holding the line to pass both the infrastructure bill and BBB at the same time. They knew Manchin would do this. Predictable.

Failure to pass the #BuildBackBetterAct is not an option. Obstruction by Sen. Manchin hurts working families while protecting corporations. American families need transformational investments in climate, paid leave, healthcare, childcare & more. @SenateDems must finish the job.

Breaking News: Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat of West Virginia, said that he could not support President Biden’s social policy bill, all but dooming Democrats' drive to pass it as written. nyti.ms/3Ec3fvt

There still has to be some way to win on immigration.. whether it’s putting the BBB for a vote anyway, getting Biden Admin to take action, appropriations, piecemeal bills etc. This news hurts. But the job’s not finished.

I can’t believe this… All the work we put in this year to get immigration reform. People in the backlog, undocu folks, human lives are at stake and this is it? Don’t we have a Dem trifecta? Ridiculous

BREAKING: Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin says he can't vote for a $2 trillion social safety net bill, dealing a potentially fatal blow to President Joe Biden’s signature legislation. apne.ws/2s3cusc

Like @MarielenaNILC said👇 @SenateDems should use "their power under existing Senate rules to disregard the parliamentarian’s advisory opinion and enact permanent protections" for immigrants. #DisregardTheParl ow.ly/pgkY50Hel7K
