Schumer wanted the BBB vote before Christmas. So did Biden. Parl killed Plan C just before Christmas. So in some sense immigrants are lucky Manchin balked. Otherwise Dems woulda passed BBB with no immigrant relief. #SilverLinings

Build Back Better will resurface. What we are witnessing now is a game between leadership and Manchin that allows him and corporate donors to gut the bill while everyone acts powerless. I refuse to play this game. We need to call this out for what it is.
Joe Manchin to WV radio details his rationale to oppose Build Back Better. Said he told Schumer months ago there needed to be means testing, work requirements. Said months ago he noted the bill was "very far-reaching. "We have been way far apart philosophically."

Schumer in a letter today says Senate will vote on BBB “to make their position known on the Senate floor, not just on television. We are going to vote on a revised version of the House-passed Build Back Better Act – and we will keep voting on it until we get something done.”
This is why progressives were holding the line to pass both the infrastructure bill and BBB at the same time. They knew Manchin would do this. Predictable.
Failure to pass the #BuildBackBetterAct is not an option. Obstruction by Sen. Manchin hurts working families while protecting corporations. American families need transformational investments in climate, paid leave, healthcare, childcare & more. @SenateDems must finish the job.

There still has to be some way to win on immigration.. whether it’s putting the BBB for a vote anyway, getting Biden Admin to take action, appropriations, piecemeal bills etc. This news hurts. But the job’s not finished.
