"Vanity of vanities," says the professor of German literature as he ambles down the Suffolk coastline, pondering the former glories of Somerleyton Hall, the demise of Dunwich and the perils of sericulture: -- "all is vanity."

Strong words from Prof. Milbank but fair ones. We need to stop rebelling against our own nature.

The sick logic of atheism: we should be able to attend our own funerals. But we can’t. The outrage is trying to base anything public at all upon the incoherence of atheism that is inherently nihilistic. There can be no just political order outside faith. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

With the votum (Ps. 124:8) and benediction (Num. 6:24-25) the service begins and ends with God’s name and so they meet ‘in the name’. Old locates the source of this short epiclesis in the Neuchâtel, Bernese & medieval liturgies, with its roots in, eg, Ps. 8:1, 113:1-3, 145:18.

My copy of MR just arrived - only to learn that this is the last print issue. Apparently it's all about the message, not the medium. I have to say I think that's a real shame, I have grown to really like having a pile of them sitting in the loo.

Just after resigning as Prime Minister in 1957, Sir Anthony Eden sailed to New Zealand. His steward on board ship was John Prescott…

Christ in the grave had all the children that His Father gave Him legally hanging about His neck, and in His arms. - Samuel Rutherford, CS VII.

Breaking: Neil Young is still the bomb.

Had an RE class into the church yesterday. I tried to explain that the sacraments are the gospel promises physicalised, and so they are personalised.

I have read the Bill myself and this is an excellent thread.

Thread/ I've quickly digested the Leadbeater Bill, which was published this evening; I hope what follows reflects it accurately. The good news is we can stop this nonsense about 'assisted dying', 'shortening death' etc.

I'm going to go out on a limb and call Alaska for Trump.

I'm calling this for Trump. Very little good news for Harris coming out of the county results so far.

This is a good word. I think 'God, Christ, creation' should be on the list too, however.

Preachers, don't think the core doctrines are too obvious or commonplace to form the heart of your preaching

Today's haul from Framingham's second-hand bookshop.

Enjoying being able to draw on some Rutherford in order to speak about the great blessing of the covenant of grace:

It's weird, but I agree.

Whenever I enter Wales I always get this powerful sense, not of Wales, but of Britain, the whole of Britain. (I think that this was true for G.M. Hopkins.)

It's great to see post-grad research from @UnionTCollege being released into the wild!

It was a pleasure to speak at the @southwestgospel men's convention today providing a deeper dive into the theology of Jesus' resurrection with some help from @StephenCharnock So exciting to see men engage with some remarkable theology and explore implications for our lives.

Very far from being an expert on the economics but the idea that we would make societal choices - eg that all adults should be in paid employment - based on metrics like GDP is mad to me. So much of it doesn't measure real productivity. Happy to be corrected @stuiofox and others.

Did you know that 10% of our GDP is the imagined rent that homeowners would pay for the property they own? The wacky and wonderful world of GDP....
