🧠A new study from @UHN’s @KBI_UHN reveals key differences in brain activity between #Parkinsons disease and #dystonia. This research, lead by @lukamneuro could help tailor treatments like deep brain stimulation for better outcomes. ➡️uhnresearch.ca/news/examining…

Great to see this work published & especially rewarding to be a part of this collaboration!

Adaptive/closed-loop #DBS is a fascinating new tool which will likely expand the current list of indications, beyond #Parkinson We used it to understand #orthostatic #tremor during day-to-day conditions but also to stimulate on demand, with better results compared to classic DBS

Interesting that single unit firing rates don't predict #Parkinsons motor symptoms, but beta and theta rhythms in spike trains and LFPs do. Good they acknowledge need to move past resting activity, but supports pathological rhythmic activity as key circuit mechanism of disease.

Thank you for sharing our latest research! 🙏🏻 We found that in 169 people with #Parkinsons, subthalamic and pallidal beta oscillations were linked to symptom severity. However, the evidence suggests that PD pathophysiology may extend beyond resting-state beta oscillations. 🧠✨

New research from @s_sumarac @lukamneuro & @KBI_UHN colleagues explores the relationships between #Parkinsons clinical features & the spectral & temporal characteristics of single-neuron & local field potential activities in people with PD undergoing DBS nature.com/articles/s4153…

The first time I heard about #DBS & #ERNA was in a @BionicsInst guest lecture @MonashUni back in 2018. Full circle moment to be able to contribute to this amazing work on the single-neuron substrates of ERNA.

🎉Excited to share our latest research published @NatureComms We study how STN-DBS engages the subcortical circuitry to produce therapeutic relief and how this recruitment is reflected in #ERNA. -> link to publication: rdcu.be/dEsWu -> thread 🧵👇
