#Health #tip : How long should you take Vitamin D supplement after you correct your low levels? If you’re a man over 65 or a woman over 50 then you probably shouldn’t stop taking it. Everyone else can probably stop if they plan to expose their skin daily for 20 minutes and retest
#Health #tip : Do you know how to stop a nose bleed? How to manage a wound or a bite? What about a joint injury? Perhaps it’s time to take a First-Aid course. It will help you and everyone around you.
#Health #tip : Sometimes to save a life it just takes doing chest compressions continuously until the paramedics arrive. Learn how to them properly. Who knows, you might need to do them to save someone dear to you.
#Health #tip : When you eat a cookie your blood sugar will rise to TWICE that of eating a fruit, even if they have the same amount of sugar! When you want to eat something sweet, reach for a fruit.
#Health #tip : Most diabetics know about the complications of their disease that can affect their eyes, kidneys and nerves. They often forget about the most lethal one: Heart disease! To reduce your risk of heart attacks (and strokes) control your glucose level (HbA1c <7%).
#Health #tip : Caffeine may be damaging to long term brain development. No kid or teenager should use caffeinated drinks regularly if they want to reach their full brain potential. Occasional use is probably safe.
#Health #tip : Studies of pregnant women show that even 1 drink of alcohol may affect the development of the baby’s brain during the day the alcohol was consumed. Pregnant women should avoid alcohol completely.
#Health #tip : We brag at our little need for sleep (whether for studying, work or fun at night). Little do we know how damaging this lack of sleep is to our brain and body. Adults who sleep less than 7 hours a night, have more deaths, obesity, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.
#Health #tip : Knee osteoarthritis is very common, especially in those who previously injured their knees or had knee surgery. Before you consider knee replacement surgery (or daily painkillers forever), consider weight loss and exercise. They can have amazing results.
#Health #tip : Caffeine has a half life of 5-6 hours. That means if you have a coffee at 6 pm with 200 mg of caffeine you’ll have 100 mg left in your system 5-6 hours later when you’re trying to sleep! That’s significant. If you have trouble sleeping avoid caffeine after 4 pm.
#Health #tip : Do you prefer to eat something insects secrete? Or a natural plant juice? Both honey and sugar are equally bad for you! There are NO PROVEN BENEFITS of improved immunity, cancer prevention or even improved digestion for eating honey. It’s just as bad as sugar syrup
#Health #tip : The next time you see your doctor, bring your medicines and supplements with you. A 3-minute discussion with your doctor about them can help avoid some side effects or drug-drug interactions and will give you the confidence to commit to taking them as prescribed.
#Health #tip : Many believe that teenagers should not start lifting weights before the age of 15 or 16 years as it may stunt their growth. Not true! They can start anytime, just make sure they avoid the “gym steroids”!
#Health #tip : Doing a colonoscopy every 10 years may save your life as it is the ONLY screening test that prevents cancer from developing in the future (and not just detects early cancer). Don’t delay it. Start at age 45 years.
#Health #tip : Many believe that white dots on nails means they are low on calcium. Not true! They are caused by minor trauma to the nails and calcium supplements will not make it better!
#Health #tip : There is NO clinical proof whatsoever that lemon or lemon juice in water, whether hot or cold, has ANY health benefits. Don’t believe what is said on social media without clinical proof. Theories, lab or animal studies don’t always pan out. Look for human studies.
#Health #tip : There is no pill better than another in the treating high blood pressure, only in added benefits (e.g. kidney protection for diabetics or heart protection). The most important thing is to bring the blood pressure to ideal levels (110/70 mmHg) without side effects.
#Health #tip : If you’re getting bald at the back area (crown), then you’re statistically 40% more likely to get heart attacks. Live a healthy lifestyle. How you live your life is more important than your genes. Also, getting a hair transplant would not change that risk!
#Health #tip : If you want to use fresh garlic to lower your blood pressure, please don’t!! It doesn’t work and it negatively affects all those around you!
