Today's the first day of early voting in South Carolina for the general election! If you're a SC registered voter, check scvotes.gov/voters/early-v… to see one of the many locations where you can vote early. If you're registered in another state, you should vote early if you can!
The UofSC Dept of Statistics has an opening for Instructor of Statistics! Our department's Instructors are highly valued and have opportunities to create/offer new courses (e.g. an Instructor in our dept has created a new course on Advanced Machine Learning). Apply if interested!
📢JOB OPPORTUNITY📢 We are hiring a full-time Instructor in Statistics! If you are interested in a rewarding career as a teaching professor where you can teach and mentor students in Statistics, please apply at this link! uscjobs.sc.edu/postings/176805
We had a great time welcoming Dr. Weijie Su @weijie444 from UPenn Wharton to our department today! Profs @edsel_pena, @raybai07, @ian_dryden, and @DBHstat got to introduce Dr. Su to our mascot Cocky the Gamecock! #SpursUp

My PhD student Shijie is in the top left! He did an excellent job during his PhD -- 3 papers accepted and 1 currently under review. I'm glad he is able to continue applying his PhD knowledge to his work on artificial intelligence in industry now.
✨ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT✨Our PhD graduates not only get great jobs in academia but also in industry! Our grads are highly sought after for roles in AI, machine learning, data science, biostatistics, & finance. Below are some of our PhD alumni applying their skills outside of academia!
The application deadline for the @uofscstatistics Statistics PhD program is January 15! There is no application fee for the 2024-2025 cycle. Great academic placements at both research universities and primarily undergraduate institutions. Apply if you're interested!
✨ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT✨ We are thrilled that our graduates have been able to find success and thrive in many careers. Below are some of our PhD alumni working at major research universities in the U.S.! Consider applying for our PhD program this fall if you want an academic career
Had an amazing 39th birthday celebration with great company and great food! Bowled a personal best of 145 with 5 strikes in one game! #lastyearofmy30s #39yearsyoung
Delighted that our paper "VCBART: Bayesian trees for varying coefficients" (with @skdeshpande91, @BalocchiCecilia, Jennifer Starling, and Jordan Weiss) has been accepted for publication by Bayesian Analysis! The accepted version of this paper here: raybai.net/wp-content/upl…
Update! We have since generalized this result to negative binomial random variables with the generalized PMF, which allows the dispersion parameter to be any positive real number. The updated full paper is now available here: raybai.net/wp-content/upl…
Working on a revision, and we proved a new tail bound for negative binomial random variables! I'm not a probabilist (actually more of a computational statistician these days), but every now and then, it's cool to put on the probabilist hat and derive an interesting result!
Congratulations to PhD student Qinyan Shen and her advisors Prof. Karl Gregory and Prof. Xianzheng Huang! Their paper "Post-selection inference in regression models for group testing data" has been accepted for publication in Biometrics!🎉🥳 Link: doi.org/10.1093/biomtc…
