The latest from @headecon: New research has mapped the costs of protecting homes from #wildfires to show they are highest in rural parts of the western US where density is relatively low. bit.ly/3lfSbcP

What @DrNathanNunn said! Also, we have some incredible (and incredibly nice) recent faculty hires...

Thinking of doing a PhD in economics? A little under 2 weeks to apply to UBC's program. Dynamic faculty, great mentorship, fun research environment, amazingly diverse group of students, great city. What's not to like?

Quick thread on a paper we had out last week on wildfire smoke in @NatureHumBehav Take-home is that current policy approaches to protecting folks from wildfire smoke exposure are pretty inadequate. Paper here nature.com/articles/s4156… (1/n)

When @grant_mcdermott writes a blog post that solves a problem I am literally tangling with at _this very moment_ it becomes very hard to believe he doesn’t have cameras in my home. I’m onto you, McDermott

This post is unavailable.

New wildfires/adaptation WP with @JuddBoomhower: We find that CA wildland building codes starting in 90s had big effects on the probability of home survival in a wildfire, but very few other places in the West have similar requirements (even today). Any feedback is appreciated!

New nationwide data on wildfire losses show resilience benefits of building codes for homes and neighbors. Market failures appear key to low take-up of mitigation in no-codes areas, from @pbaylis and Judson Boomhower nber.org/papers/w29621
