A friday full of blessings —
Signed Justice Murray Sinclair’s memorial book at the Manitoba Legislature this morning. What a powerful legacy he has left. Hiy hiy Justice Sinclair for the heart and passion you gave to reconciliation.
Nova Scotia holds two records. 1. The highest rate of IPV in Canada. 2. The largest mass casualty in Canada's history. We need platforms that address this, not free parking. It's like no one read the @NSMassCasualty report #nspoli thecoast.ca/news-opinion/h… via @TwitCoast

Read @RebeccaSolnit and absorb that hope is not a bird in the sky you hope lands near you, it’s an active orientation. You find it in the care for someone else or something else outside of yourself. It’s bigger than you. It’s an act of cultivation. Rub two sticks together.
“I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

Murray Sinclair knew the Premier from the time Wab started to crawl. How? The Kinew and Sinclair families are close and founded an Anishinaabe preschool together in the Peg. At Kinew's swearing in ceremony in fall, 2023, Sinclair called it Manitoba's true act of reconciliation.
Murray Sinclair was a great Canadian, a great Manitoban, a great Anishinaabe. His career stands as a legacy of public service and a deep commitment to truth, fairness and dignity for all people. He was the first Indigenous person to be named to the Manitoba provincial court…
Something a lot of Canadians may not know about Murray Sinclair is, despite the dark stories he carried, he loved to laugh. He also adored kids. In assisted living, he befriend two birds: Bonnie and Clyde. He loved toasted tomato sandwiches and iced tea. And he had a motorcycle.
The first time I met Murray Sinclair, I cried. Later, he became a friend. This is the man I was privileged to know, by @TanyaTalaga theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl… via @GlobeDebate #reconciliation
To honour the passing of Murray Sinclair, I’ve put an orange shirt in my window - and I’m inviting others to do the same across the country. We owe him, and the residential school survivors he supported, a great deal for helping to put us on the path of truth and reconciliation.
Something that Tanya Talaga said a couple of weeks ago that hasn’t left me: when you think of Murray, think of the weight of hearing thousands of accounts of untold horror, and the toll it would take on your body. Think of taking that on. cbc.ca/news/politics/…
reading bell hooks last year got me thinking about the importance of students having fun in class. it was a critical aspect of her pedagogical approach. students enjoying themselves while learning need not detract from a classroom’s seriousness or commitment to rigour.
Not sure how many people know this, but if you have accessibility issues, Elections Nova Scotia can arrange to have someone come to your house so you can cast your vote
Gentle reminder that older kids who might be very tall/big for their age may be out trick or treating tonight. In a world that forces kids to grow up too fast, too often, please be kind to those hanging onto a fun part of childhood. 🧡
