Some excellent engagement, knowledge and skills on show (not least critical thinking, and communicating and influencing). Training the next generation of diplomats? Thanks to all those involved, including the staff for facilitating so well @ReptonPrep 2/2

One of last month's highlights was a visit to a local school to talk about the @FCDOGovUK's work and my career. And to conduct a negotiating exercise @ReptonPrep 1/2

"The approach that we've taken in Wales to think long-term and act for the needs of future generations as well as those today is seen to be of interest for other countries to learn from." #FutureGenForum ICYMI: @derekwalker_ on @bbcradiowales from 1:51:28 bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

From Wales to the world, @nationcymru breaks down our role in convening the crucial discussions with @UN to establish and implement legislation to protect those now and in the future at #FutureGenForum in Cardiff this week: nation.cymru/news/landmark-…

Over to participants at the civil society event in #Nairobi and to colleagues in @UKUN_NewYork Thanks to @futuregencymru @JacobDEllis @WelshGovernment for very worthwhile discussions #FutureGenForum 12/12

And avoiding the risk of having legislation that is good to talk about - and admire - but which has limited impact and fails to effect change. If Wales managed this, so can other countries #FutureGenForum 11/12

So one answer lies in embedding futures thinking into achieving the #SDGs. Not as an additional activity but as a necessity for progress #FutureGenForum 10/12

I was struck at the #FutureGenForum by the calls for a focus on implementation, of storytelling, of avoiding the vacuous ‘now or tomorrow’ arguments/trade offs 9/12

So how to incentivise @UN member states to a high level of ambition in the Declaration? How can the Declaration help them overcome the barriers to adopting existing good practice incl from Wales? #FutureGenForum 8/12

The Summit/Declaration offers the chance to secure reform and signal the reform required elsewhere in the international system. It could deliver a reinvigorated, more representative, more inclusive system #FutureGenForum 7/12

This is similar to current perceptions of the multilateral system: under stress from multiple crises but not broken 6/12

And hope and optimism, recognising the opportunity presented by the Summit/Declaration #FutureGenForum 5/12

But we also heard much concern, frustration, exasperation at failure of @UN member states to grip future generations thinking/anticipatory governance etc already 4/12

While the @UN Summit of the Future negotiating processes have started, our positions are not 100% finalised. It was good to hear #FutureGenForum support for some of our current Declaration ‘asks’ eg references to persons with disabilities 3/12

We came from @FCDOGovUK, representing @tariqahmadbt, to listen, learn, receive some challenge and harvest ideas. We were not disappointed #FutureGenForum 2/12

A few reflections on today’s #FutureGenForum in Cardiff led by @futuregencymru @derekwalker_ @UN Summit of the Future, Declaration on Future Generations 1/12
