FIRST SINGLE OF THE YEAR DANCE WITH THE GROOVE OUT NOW 🔥 linktr.ee/Jameskennedy333
Richard Belzer was the first actor to welcome me when I started at SVU. Open, warm, acerbic, whip smart, surprisingly kind. I loved writing for Munch, and I loved being with Belz. We sensed this would be his parting scene. Godspeed Belz… youtu.be/We37zJBeBzk via @YouTube
Two currently sitting US Senators suffered from significant strokes this year which hospitalized them and neither The NY Times nor the WaPo commented negatively on their ability to recover and fully perform their duties as Senator. Shame on both these formerly respected journals!
Oz on the other hand repeatedly reminded listeners as he has through the campaign that he is a radical extremist bent on stripping away the most basic rights of women, supporting the profoundly dangerous agenda of the gun lobby, and advancing the agenda of Donald Trump.
Fetterman stumbled and searched for words. But what he said should have been more important than how he said it. He exhibited clear thoughts and, perhaps more strikingly when considering his opponent, clear conscience and good values.
Is it worthy of comment? Of course. Was it or should it have been the primary take-away from the debate? Not even close. It reflected a view of debates as being much like what was described by Oz, as "television shows." It ignored that they have a more serious purpose.
Trump, for obvious reasons, loved to focus on the superficial. That is because that is all he had. He was never up for or up to developing the character or investing the hard work required by depth or having a constructive agenda.
But Trump loves people, like Oz, who were telegenic and glib, who, "look the part." What does that get you, when you disregard what really matters, like the interests of the country, the rights of people, fundamental values? Well, it gets you Oz...or Kari Lake...or Kristi Noem.
It gets you football stars who are actually cognitively and morally impaired (but famous!) like Herschel Walker. It gets you media stars who are profoundly hypocritical and ill-suited to the jobs they seek like JD Vance.
We ought to know better. Should FDR have been denied the presidency because he was in a wheelchair? Should Lincoln have been denied it because he was not telegenic? Should Tammy Duckworth or Bob Dole or Daniel Inouye have been denied the Senate because of their war injuries?
Would you deny Stephen Hawking tenure because he had lost the ability to speak...even if he still had ample use one of the most brilliant minds the world has ever known? Books and covers, people. Don't fall for it.
Oz is not even a real resident of the state he represents. He is a legitimate national security threat. He is a proven snake-oil salesman and quack cure profiteer. He is a liar. He knows little about policy.
The real headline from last night's debate was that Oz said that abortion decisions should be left up to "women, doctors and local political leaders." It was tone deaf and morally bankrupt. It is the kind of view that will not pass as Fetterman's momentary impediments will.
We face enormous challenges as a nation. We need leaders who are capable of solving the problems of the moment not those with good hair or the best Tweet-length soundbites. We certainly do not need more leaders who are extremists, liars or incompetent.
We need more Fettermans. We can ill-afford any more like Trump, Oz, Walker, Vance, Lake, Noem, DeSantis, Rubio, and the rest of the cartoon army of those with irredeemably defective characters and values that the MAGA GOP is betting the media & superficial voters will support.
My heart is broken. Leslie Jordan was one of the funniest people I ever had the pleasure of working with. Everyone who ever met him, loved him. There will never be anyone like him. A unique talent with an enormous, caring heart. You will be missed, my dear friend. 😔❤️
In a radio interview Trump threatens the nation if he gets indicted. This is the behavior of a low rent mobster. No one is above the law but Trump behaves as if he is.
