“Lou Gehrig traveled to #Yankee Stadium in June of 1923 by subway, with his shoes and glove in a newspaper. There was no red carpet, no welcoming committee, except Paul Kritchell, the scout who had discovered him not long before, slugging home runs for Columbia University.”

Fernando Valenzuela captivated the baseball world in 1981. His unforgettable year included winning the NL Rookie of the Year, Cy Young Award & a World Series title. We honor the memory of the Dodgers icon, who passed away Tuesday at age 63, with a look back at “Fernandomania.”

Congrats to @AaronBoone on joining Grampa Yogi, Ralph Houk, Billy Martin & Joe Girardi as the 5th Yankee to reach the #WorldSeries as both a player and manager. Now, I challenge Aaron to also bring back these really cool shades! 😎❤️⚾️ #Yankees #RepBX

Today, Players around the game remember Lou Gehrig, who set a standard for character, integrity and excellence from his debut as @Yankees starting first baseman on June 2, 1925, until his death on June 2, 1941. They lend their support in the effort to eradicate ALS. #LouGehrigDay

When Lou Gehrig passed away 83 years ago today, he was at home. “This” was that home. In the northern Bronx. Nice house, but in no way ostentatious. Kind of like the man, himself. #LouGehrigDay

This will be the coolest thing you’ll see today, maybe even this year. Lots of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig footage you’ve never seen. You’ll want to see this

Happy Birthday to the most unlikely Hall of Famer (or not, depending on your level of baseball knowledge). #haroldbaines

FWIW, Baines drove in more runs than Chipper Jones, Mike Schmidt, George Brett, Andre Dawson, Mantle and DiMaggio. He doesn't deserve to be the low-ball yardstick for who gets in the Hall or not. 🫤 That said Maris and Mattingly both need to be there.
