To reduce climate harm, congestion, & air pollution from transport, probably the biggest, quickest & cheapest win is for councils to allow dockless ebikes.😀 Huge success in car-centric USA: bit.ly/3I7gtPR How about it, @corkcitycouncil (#climateneutralcity?)? 👍👍
But, of course... Develop a strategic, high quality route between the city and harbour, and it WILL be a selling point. Walking & cycling for leisure, tourism, & transport. Positive pricing effects for owners of nearby property.
We did it! Circa 50 cyclists was seen riding & freezing in Christmas mood today. We checked old & new cycle lanes in city centre. Thanks to @rep_of_bike @CorkCyclingCrew @lee2sea @CorkCombikes
We thoroughly support a vibrant destination along the route of the #lee2sea greenway. A solution can be found if the will exists. The market is a wonderful asset to the city.❤️❤️❤️ @MarinaParkCork @MarinaMktCork
SAVE THE MARINA MARKET Almost 20,000 people have signed an online petition to save the Marina Market. Cork man Charlie Clarke says he hopes the petition will be enough to persuade the city planners to allow "the fabulous Marina Market to exist as it is." petitions.sumofus.org/petitions/keep…
“Invest in nature-based solutions at the scale of the Dunkettle Interchange.” Great article, Shane. Really like the idea of expanding @lee2sea into an urban national park, helping flood risk mitigation too.
Thanks. A significant response to climate change has to be imaginative, inspiring projects on the metropolitan scale. The Lee-to-Sea one such marvelous idea. The city and state should just get on and deliver it.
Had occasion to cycle from Fitzgerald Park to Curraheen this afternoon. I done so via the Lee Fields & the Curraheen Greenway. Such a pleasant & safe cycle, even on a wet & cold November afternoon. A taste of what the @lee2sea could be @EamonRyan @CorkGreens @CorkCyclingCrew
L2S should be prioritised as a matter of urgency. Unlike other greenways, which are predominantly used for leisure/tourism, the L2S has huge potential for commuting. The roads are full, what better way to get people out of cars & onto bikes for their daily commute.
As we've said many times, 157,000 people live within 2 km of the L2S. Not to mention all the shops, hospitals, colleges, schools, & business parks. It's a unique opportunity to make transport in the city nicer, less congested, & less polluting. And fantastic for placemaking!😀
