You don’t have to be an administrator, grade level chair, or department head to be a leader in you school. Your title doesn’t matter. You just need to care about making it better. Passion and commitment can transform any culture.

No one should be able to make decisions about education without spending time in the classroom. Especially policies implemented by politicians.

A lot of us on summer road trips can relate... twitter.com/letsquitteachi…

Improving learning primarily through Tiers 2 & 3 is like taking a family road trip by pushing the car down the road instead of using the engine. It's gonna be a lot of work & sweat, & won't get you where you need to go. Crank that Tier 1 engine up & get things moving.

If we want to see an improvement in the learning from our kids, we must first change the Tier 1 instruction we provide for them. Doing what we've always done will get us what we've always got. And that's just the truth. Keep teaching. Or design learning.

LaurieGray Reposted

Just because we "taught" it, doesn't mean anyone learned it. We've got to put into common practice a Tier 1 designed to produce evidence of learning, so everyone, teachers & learners alike, can point to what took place any given day & say, "There's the learning that happened."

Teaching our students to write a story or paragraph is the end goal, not the starting point, of writing instruction. So what foundational transcription skills do students need BEFORE they can write a paragraph? Thank you J.Graham for your help with this!…

We do NOT lower the bar. Teachers, kids will face any challenge when they know you will be there to support them when it's needed Leaders, staff will face any challenge when they know you will be there to support them when it's needed Keep the bar high. Keep support higher.

If you find more & more students... with lower achievement, in need of Tier 2 & 3 services, caught in an ever-increasing achievement gap, not engaged in learning, displaying misbehaviors, or anything else getting in the way of learning: STOP EVERYTHING & LOOK AT TIER 1
