The fact that this needs to be penned, and that women in footy had spent all week copping absolute awful hate from all corners, is a dire indictment on where we are as a country. Women deserve to be in any space they want to be in. Women deserve to feel safe in their workplace.

Jokes about violence against women normalises the behaviour for people who commit it. Even if you think you understand it's a joke, are you certain the people around you understand that? Or worse, are they using it to justify their behaviour?
