Build something good, not mvps

More and more, I have lost conviction that “minimum viable products” make sense for product development. It makes no sense to release a product with the core flow and then dismiss its viability after the aggregate data says people aren’t using it. Instead, founders should have…

People underestimate the impact of "getting the details right". Design details are small, but they compound. If Jira is death by a thousand papercuts, then Linear is resurrection by a thousand quality of life improvements. We actually measured the difference and it turns out…

We have pretty simple PRD guidelines — Start with the highest level and get more granular. Start with the widest audience, and get narrower. Start with the stuff that's least likely to change, end with the stuff that's more likely to change as you discover and build. Basic…

I think it’s fine as a founder to meet investors when you aren’t fundraising, but one piece of advice I got that helped me a lot when I was running Lattice: if you’re truly not fundraising, don't talk about your numbers. I would open up the meeting saying something like “hey…

Chat w/ @Mkclements about building @linear For me companies are like design problems: you have context, constraints & goals unique to you. Then you look for a solution that has a good fit Directly applying what others have done doesn’t work that well youtube.com/watch?v=d0Yq2f…

We've been using @linear for ~3 weeks. Amazing how much everyone enjoys the product as the source-of-truth if it works in a fast/snappy way. We currently keep all PRDs, org-wide updates, and development tasks in the same place. It's such a fucking breath of fresh air...

Just did a rough calculation and by the time my kids are 12, working from my home studio instead of commuting will have effectively given us an entire *YEAR* of extra time with them. Mostly long mornings and time immediately after work/school (which are the best times).

One of the best things about remote work is getting to see my 2yo son throughout the day and play with him as soon as I’m done. Working at the office or commuting would take some of that away. There’s always more work, but they’re only this young once.

Something I’m really proud of is the longevity we have with our @linear customers. For example, @tryramp is currently in their fifth year as a Linear customer. Once companies switch to Linear, we rarely see them leave. And we don’t want them to—we want to grow with them.
