Our new paper 🚨 talks about who’s the boss in news media innovation, and proposes a new way to understand media innovations’ fate. Focusing on the case of immersive (VR) journalism, this paper looks at the adoption of innovations in news media. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/14…

#ICA24 presentation done! Slightly lonely to be the only in-person presenter in the session, but I enjoyed the broad discussion over how innovations shake up journalism. Tough crowd though, nobody laughed at my jokes 😬

I know every ICA tweet looks like this today. But I’m excited (and heavily jet-lagged) for #ICA24 Tomorrow I’ll present our research on immersive (VR) journalism’s bottleneck in the High-Tech Journalism session. Come say hi!

We did! 🙋🏻‍♂️

In Chap 1, @kaixin_cheng_ and Marc Verboord (@eshcc_eur) explore the decline in immersive journalism production following VR's initial hype. They argue that media innovators continue to see potential in IJ as a novel form of journalism and provide recommendations for the future.

Buy it! 💸

Great to be invited by @tomasdoddsr and amazing MA journalism students at Leiden University to give a guest talk about immersive journalism, VR, and my research in their news innovation course. Such a confidence boost when students are so engaging with discussions

I thoroughly enjoyed #Etmaal2024 Rotterdam and all. But to me, conference without travelling is like a jar of ice cream, without the ice cream. Many thanks to NeFCA and the organisers!!!

#Etmaal2024 Presentation done and the audience were super engaging. Great experience! Missed it? I talked about how champions, pioneers, leaders, newsroom culture/routines, competing innovations, etc having huge impact on news innovations. And made three jokes about my supervisor

Coming to Rotterdam for #Etmaal2024? Come listen to me talking newsroom innovation and the (non-)adoption of VR/XR in journalism. First parallel session on Thursday. We are also one of the closest to the lunch place so that you get a head start on your conference experience.

Honestly being a PhD student at a conference can feel like this sometimes

This drink was served on our eventful research day last month. As if we’re nog steeds not Dutch enough by having cold hard sandwich for lunch. #joke
