Pleased to meet with Burmese civil society representatives. The U.S. stands in solidarity with the people of Burma as they demand restoration of their democratically elected government. We call on the military to end its violent suppression of the people of Burma.

As per reports, at least 50 SAC thugs arrived at #Bago. Some youngsters had a disagreement with the village administrator, & SAC abducted 4 youths from the community. #DreadfulCovidAmidMilitaryCoup #June29Coup #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

Rain is helping to keep 100,000 IDPs trapped by junta forces in Kayah State alive. But, they are running out of time as junta forces keep blocking food and medicine. Karenni people are facing starvation not because of anything that they have done, but because of who they are.

Peace & stability could only be achieved once the military stops committing human rights violations & give the power back to the legitimately elected gov. A tea party style engagement is only strengthening the military's sense of impunity & encouraging them to commit more abuses.

Mass deaths from starvation, disease and exposure could occur in Kayah State after many of the 100,000 forced to flee into forests from junta bombs are now cut off from food, water and medicine by the junta. The international community must act. My full statement below.

Apart from responding to the CDM emergency needs, we also have to deal with our own internally displaced Karen people who are currently fleeing heavy mortars shelling and air attacks in Karen State.

Unity doesn't mean having the same opinion or ideology. In a functioning democracy, people should be able to give constructive criticism against gov. Our job is to uphold democratic values & make sure gov respect them rather than being a shield for gov to hide from any criticisms

When lifelong rights advocates like @WahkusheeT asks @NUGMyanmar that I am now part of to prove ourselves, she asked because she has hope in us & wants us to succeed. She is giving us the opportunity to prove ourselves that we are the people's government. We have to deliver this!
