So? I’m as British as you. So, incidentally, was my foreign born mum.

"Between 50 and 57% of births in English cities such as London, Manchester, Cambridge, & Leicester are to mothers who were not born in the UK, while one in three of all children are now born to mothers who were born overseas —the highest proportion since records began"

MPs vote on the Tobacco and Vapes Bill today Cigarettes trap people by addiction taking choice away; many die as a result. Secondhand smoke inhaled by non-smokers harms them without their choice Vapes can help smokers quit but marketing vapes at children is utterly unacceptable

We can't let this happen. We’re going to keep fighting for you to make sure mental health is treated as just as much of a priority as physical health.

The Mental Health Investment Standard is a policy the previous UK government put in place to make sure mental health services get a certain share of NHS funding when it’s allocated at a local level. It’s the only part of mental health funding that’s actually ring-fenced.

We're worried the UK government might scrap the Mental Health Investment Standard.

We’ll use your answers to show the government why mental health must be a priority in their new plan. The survey only takes 15 minutes. Can you help? ⬇ 4/4 surveys.survation.com/s3/MindSurvey/…

We want to hear from you about: 1️⃣How waiting for mental health services affects you. 2️⃣How work can impact mental health (and how mental health impacts on work). 3️⃣Other things in society that affect mental health. 3/4

This is a big chance for us to improve mental health services. We can make sure the 10-year plan leads to better mental health support for everyone. And we want to make sure that the government listens to you about your experiences and what you want to change. 2/4

We need your help! The UK gov is working on a new 10-year health plan for England. We want mental health to be a top priority. If you're an adult with lived experience of mental health problems, tell us how you want us to influence the plan here ⬇ 1/4 surveys.survation.com/s3/MindSurvey/…

This is a horrendous situation and disturbing thread to read. My thoughts with Jane, Cat and her family. Sadly other than potential legal action it's very tough to know what can be done. It is possible to try to raise emergency situation with Ombudsman but that's unlikely to…

1. I don’t often tweet about my personal life, but on 1st November, my mum Jane was hit by a large vehicle as a pedestrian in St. Louis, USA. She suffered a severe brain injury & remains in a coma in hospital. Here's Jane & me in happier times.

🗣"Fix mental health and fix so many of the UK's problems" 💷It costs England alone £300bn a year. 🙋‍♂️It's not just about numbers, its about people. @CentreforMH's new report with @MindCharity sets out the facts in an ambitious new report. Listen: tiny.cc/MHM341

There was a range of performance in Hackney’s sec schs. Things needed to improve. But NOT at the expense of humiliating students who soiled themselves in class because of zero tolerance regimes. You can improve schs dramatically in a humane, inclusive way. So many examples 🌟

We must never overlook the deplorable state of Hackney’s schools in the 1990s. Countless dedicated and hardworking teachers and leaders committed their professional lives to transforming these institutions, laying the groundwork for the successes that pupils and parents enjoy…

Just for clarity… when the @bet365 ad says ‘now for the football - Clive’… that is NOT me. I would never record an ad for a betting company or agree to my voice being used in one.

For 2,000 years, Jews have been one of the most persecuted, marginalized, and targeted minorities, with countless attempts to annihilate them. Yet the woke crowd refuses to give them the same recognition it offers other minorities. Why is that?

Worth a listen to @MorganVine_ on @LBC last night about what the @IndependentAge helpline is hearing from older people struggling to keep warm this winter…

Our Director of Policy & Influencing @MorganVine_ spoke to @LBC last night about how our Helpline is hearing from more and more older people like Mandy who are already struggling to stay warm this winter. The UK Govt must ensure those who need the #WinterFuelPayment receive it.

I’ve one clear memory of John Prescott making a difference when I was working in DWP in the 2000s No 10 was briefing a scheme to dock housing benefit for anti-social behaviour He refused to sign up & killed it on basis “you can’t have a punishment that’s only for the poor”

Trials are being adjourned from 2024 to 2026 at one London court with capacity issues. Imagine getting the call to be told your trial (on either side of the courtroom) was being delayed. It won’t start on time. Not by 2 hours. Or days. Not by 2 weeks. Or months. But 2 years.
