This week Guardian and Observer staff have been told there is no credible counter bid to Tortoise's to buy the Obs. But what have we here? pressgazette.co.uk/publishers/nat…

And here's one from God's own poet Lemn Sissay: "Absolute bag of shite [the sale, not the NUJ). You are the guardians doing what a Guardian should. Guarding!!!" Lemn is one of a number of poets, singers & royals hoping to join us on Wednesday (OK we made up the bit about royals)

And here's another message of support from the great actor and social justice campaigner Sheila Hancock: "I am deeply worried about what's happening. The Observer and Guardian must not be diminished in any way."

Messages of support are coming in for Guardian/Obs journalists. Here's one from the milkman of human kindness himself, @billybragg "The Tortoise deal sounds like a stitch up! In solidarity. Billy.'

We'd love to see you to join us on t next Wednesday and Thursday (Dec 4 and 5) , any time of day, outside the Guardian (90 York Way, London N1 9GU) for chats, songs, speeches and, of course that striking essential ... cake.

One of the most powerful feelings to emerge from yesterday's NUJ meeting was shame at how our management is acting in trying to give away Britain's oldest Sunday newspaper to a broke startup and pride at our unity in standing up for true Guardian values ✊🏽✊✊🏿

So we had an incredibly empowering NUJ meeting yesterday. Almost 500 people (a record) attended in person and online, and there was unanimity about the need to strike to save the Obs. ✊🏽✊✊🏿

No fewer than six former editors/EiCs of the Observer have written to the Scott Trust urging them to pause the sale of the title to Tortoise Media pressgazette.co.uk/news/observer-…

Betrayal. Observer will close under Tortoise. Financially unsustainable

As an Observer subscriber, I have paused my subscription for the 8th December on solidarity. Could Guardian readers either pause subscription or ‘no buy’ on the days of the strike?

Got my Observer newspaper today. The very best of the Sunday titles. It’s vital that we support the journalists at the Observer and Guardian who are opposed to the Tortoise Media deal - @sarah_donaldson @soniasodha

The @Guardian is keen to thank people like me for supporting it via a subscription. But it doesn't ask people like me what we think of the proposal to lop off a key part of my subscription package. Its appeal will quickly diminish if the Observer goes.

If you’re a Guardian or Observer reader, please share this. The need for a strong, free & independent press couldn’t be greater. Yet, here it is. The billionaire Scott Trust is preparing to push a core part of the Guardian over the cliff into the hands of speculators & profiteers

As a former Guardian writer, here's what's worth knowing about the Scott Trust selling the Observer to the Tortoise. It is NOT a Trust but a private limited company controlled by extremely wealthy shareholders with serious conflicts of interest medium.com/insurge-intell…

Agreed. The Scott Trust needs to wake up.

I don’t think this deal passes the smell test. Surely the Scott Trust has a duty to protect the culture, ethos and heritage of the 233 year old Observer rather than bundling it hurriedly into a rather weird, loss making media non-entity.
