My 5 year old daughter just told me she was having a “brain code” and my neuro-intensivist mom brain jumped to the worst case scenario until she amended her statement to tell me she actually had a “brain freeze”.

Love this approach to the sedated ICU patient. Whether they’re in the Neuro ICU, MICU, SICU or CICU, it’s never ok to put “intubated and on sedation” for your neuro physical exam. That’s how people herniate.

Saying goodbye to my ICU nurses on my very last day of fellowship after a week full of ICU worthy emergencies, I said “but no one died”. They look up and tell me room 2 is coding. 🤦🏼♀️ But my amazing team had ROSC before I could even get there so it still counts! #noonedied #ICU

I ran a code blue 2 weeks ago on the floor (not my unit). 2 weeks later an RN randomly comes up and asks if I’m Dr DeHoff. Proceeds to tell me the RNs talked after and wanted to tell me how smoothly the code went and how appreciative they were for my leadership. 😊☺️

There is no better feeling than sneaking in to kiss my kids early before I leave for work and they both roll over and THROW their arms around me and pull me tight. And then they follow me downstairs and ask for breakfast lol.

Tried out @solvemed’s “digital penlight” app for iOS & I gotta say I’m impressed! The app seems to accurately detect/track my pupil & measure the change in size with light. 📲👁️📏 Cool example of a digital health tool that can improve quality & make my job a little easier!
