2¹³⁶²⁷⁹⁸⁴¹−1, discovered today, is the largest known prime. It's a Mersenne prime (2ᵖ-1), which are easier to find. It took nearly 6 years for the GIMPS software to find it after the previous largest known prime. It was also the first Mersenne prime found using GPUs.
I think it is EXTREMELY difficult to build a village in the manufactured isolation of a car dependent American suburb.
my grandma lives in New York and recently had a fall. It took 15 minutes for the ambulance to arrive due to gridlock. While she was lucky to be ok, I am worried if she has another emergency and ambulances are slowed down because @GovKathyHochul suspended congestion pricing
Big news dropping this September! 🚇 We can’t reveal too much yet, but let’s just say the Roosevelt Boulevard Subway is moving full steam ahead. Stay tuned!
One aspect of trains in Europe that's overlooked is the amount of rural services. Trains that come hourly to small towns and villages. The amount of small towns with hardly used lines running through them we have, we should be doing something similar.
This is nuts. 100's of trees have been cut down on I-20 -- trees that serve an important air-filtering role next to this car traffic. GDOT reports that it's for 'vegetation mitigation'. We need a 'GDOT mitigation' plan, methinks.
This testimony is a gem. Please watch and share widely! 🚲 💰 🎉
If the local crime beat was covered the way they cover traffic crashes.
The Grand Paris Express is easily the best transit project in the world right now. 120miles of new automated metro lines 4 new and 2 extended liness 68 new stations with 2mil daily riders
If you're looking for eclipse glasses right now you understand why same day voter registration is important
The existing “rules of the road” were written in the 1950s for people piloting 300hp 2,500kg machines at high speeds, not for soft-bodied humans pedalling around on 20kg bicycles in ounces of shoes. There’s no way these two groups should be governed by the same rules.
The police report says a woman was struck by a vehicle while walking at Freedom Pkwy & N Highland Ave, on March 29 & later died in the hospital. But there's more to these tragic stories: friends and family left to grieve, and a driver who has to live with their own grief. 1/
FLASH: FRA relases a grant of 6.5bn to Texas Central and Amtrak for the construction of the Dallas to Houston HSR. Will run at a top speed of 220mph and will open by 2028
From my dad’s journal. His experience after consuming a vile, small egg.
🤔 "the vehicle she was driving crossed five lanes of traffic and crashed into a building"
Fun fact. The 1,874 single-family homes highlighted collectively pay less property taxes than the 135-unit apartment building.
Sometimes Wikipedians get SO sick of people making the same edits over and over and over that they'll add angry invisible comments that pop up when you try to make a change. Thread of my favorites! 1. From "Beyoncé" (Texas birth certificates don't allow accented letters)
5. Modern Trams Philly will be getting new public 'trolleys' around 2027-2030. These new vehicles use a 'low floor' design that's roomier and easier to board. These trams are commonly used in Europe and around the world, perhaps giving Philly streets a more international feel.
