We’ve just submitted planning for 25 apartments in Stockport. The existing historic building is retained and restored with a new build extension added. A new residents garden faces the street. @stopinstockport @CIVIC_SQUARE @archi_tradition @YIMBYLAND

The National Gallery in London is renovating its Sainsbury Wing and they’ve just found a secret letter from one of the original donors, sunk into a concrete column, saying that he hates the columns and is glad they’re being demolished. 10/10 unhinged rich man behaviour, no notes

Here's your reminder that John Hughes won a gold medal in the Architecture section of 1932 Los Angeles Olympics for his 'Design of a Sports and Recreation Centre with Stadium for the City of Liverpool'. That was unrealised; he's better known for designing St Andrew's Gardens.

A machine to strike fear into the hearts of anyone who suffered Maxpax hot drinks on BR in the 1980s. An unforgettable combo of genuinely horrific taste & superheated fluid in a plastic cup so thin you could melt off your fingerprints. Seen at @geevormuseum

Great to see the restored façade of the former Dominion Cinema in Harrow being revealed in these new pictures. Built in 1936 to designs by Frank Ernest Bromige, the Art Deco cinema was entombed in metal cladding from 1962 for nearly 60 years, until it was finally removed in 2021.…

Remarkable how much Victorian builders packed in. A Baroque colonnade; bay windows from C17 Suffolk; Gothic piers and string courses; brick & stone banding from medieval Italy; Jacobean windows below, Georgian sashes above; a Wrenaissance cornice. What other sources am I missing?

UPDATE: The planning application to redevelop St Anthony's Gardens (1933) and former Taylor's Garage (1936) in Penzance has been rejected by Cornwall Council. The gardens and garage compliment the modernist Jubilee Pool (GII) and should be adaptively reused within any new scheme.

NEWS // 🌴C20 has supported an application to register St Anthony Gardens in Penzance (1933), in an effort to save it from redevelopment. Complementing the listed Jubilee Pool opposite, the ship-like garden design has marine motifs and incorporates stone from a medieval chapel.

Shame on everyone involved in this. Where is the leadership in council/government demanding repair?

The deteriorating condition of the Crumlin Road Courthouse is notably evident in these recent aerial photographs, which show the extensive roof and structural damage the courthouse has suffered since its closure in 1998. These images emphasise the urgent need to secure and…

This wonderful building is a rare (unique?) English representative of the 'brick Deco' style of interwar France. Though contrasting stylistically with Victorian South Kensington, it respectfully continues the massing, cornice line and string course of its neighbours.
