We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: Involuntary drug treatment can cause great harm – even death – and does not save lives. Forced treatment of people who use drugs cannot be demonstrably justified in a free and democratic society. 1/ cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

Every day, the @parkboard sends a squad of Rangers to raid the CRAB Park Tent City. They take tents, backpacks, chairs, bikes, tools - whatever they want. It is a war against unhoused people and their community. Here is some of what's happening (a 🧵): 1/

Catch. Up. Your declaration of a “ceasefire” was needed months ago, it’s nothing to say it now. It’s now incumbent upon this government to take PROACTIVE actions to apply pressure of which there are many at your disposal to avoid the next massacre.

We are horrified by strikes that killed Palestinian civilians in Rafah. Canada does not support an Israeli military operation in Rafah. This level of human suffering must come to an end. We demand an immediate ceasefire.

The “clean up” of #CRABPark is a shameful addition to the City’s legacy of forcing marginalized residents to bear the brunt of a harmfully insufficient #socialservice system. What is clear, is the community as it previously stood will no longer exist. straight.com/city-culture/l…

New signage at CRAB Park confirms unhoused people who were not previously living in CRAB Park will not be allowed to stay in the tent city & have their shelter up in the daytime. Instead, they'll be forced to stay outside it & subjected to daily sweeps by park rangers & VPD 1/

By saying "We don't need people trying to bring us down," did Jordan Eng, head of Vancouver Chinatown BIA, just imply that non-straight folks, and youth & elders resisting cultural erasure in #ChinatownYVR are somehow bringing Chinatown down? #vanpoli

my radical belief is that we shouldn't permit politicians to apologize in writing. they're just reading a script that was prepared for them by a PR team and its insulting to pretend that its genuine in any way. put them in front of a mic and make them answer questions!

really revealing to hear the premier say "increase division in our province" over and over as if that's the central problem with saying something so colonial, so racist, so ahistorical— characterizing it as problematic because it's politically alienating to the NDP base. whew.

Today, B.C. Premier David Eby said that Minister Selina Robinson had used her position and authority to "increase division in our province." Eby then called her words hurtful, belittling, and dismissive, before deciding to do exactly nothing about it. This is unacceptable.

This woman uses the age old colonial trope of claiming anyone who lived on any land pre-colonization didn't build anything meaningful on that land...likening Palestinians to savages and making it sound like they aren't people. Modern day Christopher Columbus BS.

We all know that the bcndp won't do anything about Selina Robinson's racism. What remains to be seen is which party members will stay on board and cosign her racism. If you continue to be affiliated with the bcndp after today, I'm judging you, and your community is judging you.

The amount of intimidation they are using to restrain homeless folks and use any excuse to arrest advocates should send shivers down your spine. We will not be silenced.

OPPENHEIMER UPDATE: VPD & rangers aggressively drag an Indigenous man away from his belongings and proceed to tear down his tent. He is never even given the chance to retrieve essential belongings. A supporter is then arrested for peacefully observing.

UPDATE AT OPPENHEIMER: Horrific day at the park. Another legal observer arrested, two tents stolen so far with hundreds of pounds of belongings. One Indigenous Elder assaulted and held back by VPD while rangers took his tent and possessions.

Friendly reminder that the housing crisis and homelessness are the consequences of a society that sees housing as an investment, instead of a human right.
