18 of 23 fatalities of the Hwaseong lithium battery plant fire were foreign nationals. But the deceased foreign workers may receive less compensation than their fallen Korean colleagues. Why? Because compensation calculation methods and visa status impact potential payouts.

A massive fire broke out this morning at lithium battery manufacturing factory in Hwaseong, South Korea. Latest reports say at least 16 have died, although the death toll is likely to increase. Most of the victims are understood to be foreign nationals.

kaist claims i did not come into work at all on november 29. this is not possible as there was a guest visiting the lab on that day, and i sent a message to the lab when he arrived (again, i and only i was there, the students were all late)

in korean society, the more public rage there is against something, the more likely the government is to act against it by liking/reposting/etc my posts you are actually helping free a korean phd student from these conditions. they are still in the lab under that professor

kaist fired me 10 days after i internally accused professor jinjoon lee of human rights violations. they, of course, could not use that as a reason for firing me. instead they claimed i was not coming to work, and produced this chart as evidence. it is entirely fabricated 👇

If we turn our backs and ignore the crimes against humanity that are being committed in Gaza right now, what credibility will we ever have in criticizing the actions of any country, no matter how terrible those actions may be?
