The Chinese Communist Party and their puppets in Hong Kong continue to silence and intimidate those speaking up for democracy and human rights. The new security law in #HongKong is nothing more than a direct assault on freedom and autonomy. foxbusiness.com/media/hong-kon…
There are now 7.5 million political prisoners in Hong Kong. Many can leave for now, including 300,000 Canadians living in the territory. But freedom from arbitrary detention an illusion after Beijing’s Stasi arrest media proprietor Jimmy Lai, champion of democracy & free speech.
BREAKING: Pro-democracy media mogul Jimmy Lai arrested under Hong Kong security law – sources hongkongfp.com/2020/08/10/bre…
An appalling but sadly predictable development. Jimmy Lai has been arrested for the crime of criticizing the CCP. Free speech is dead in Hong Kong
Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai arrested over alleged foreign collusion theguardian.com/world/2020/aug…
In Opinion The Hong Kong police on Monday arrested the publisher Jimmy Lai. In May, Lai wrote, "I have feared that one day the Chinese Communist Party would grow tired not only of Hong Kong’s free press but also of its free people. That day has come." nyti.ms/2DTzvtB
My deepest respect to Apple Daily reporters who are continuing to stand firm, to do their jobs and to live-stream the monumental developments in their newsroom today despite the risks. A continuation of their true public service at the forefront of the protests last year. Humbled
Police set up a cordon line inside the office building of Apple Daily when they conduct a search in the newsroom. Apple Daily reporters have to stand behind the cordon line at their own office. There is a lil poster printed with “who’s afraid of the truth!”
Can you imagine the newsrooms of @nytimes or @guardian encounter something like this? After HK police arrested @JimmyLaiApple, hundreds of police were sent to Apple Daily office without the search warrant.
All 27 EU countries ask Hong Kong to reconsider its decisions to delay Legco election for a year and to disqualify pro-democracy candidates, including "sitting lawmakers previously democratically elected by the people of Hong Kong". @JosepBorrellF
#HongKongers: I am delighted @hk_watch has announced my appointment as full-time Chief Executive (of Hong Kong Watch - not of #HongKong lol 😃😃) The time has come to step up & give #HK even more of my time & energy in this hour of need. Glad to be a full-time 'handfoot' now :)
We are delighted to announce that @benedictrogers will be joining our staff team as Chief Executive Officer from 28 September! 1/3
Singapore successfully held an election despite having higher daily and total case numbers. We are concerned that the Hong Kong Government are using public health as a pretext to stall the democratic process.

BREAKING: Carrie Lam postpones LegCo election in yet another cynical ploy to deny Hong Kong people their voice. #IPAC's statement on this from yesterday: ipac.global/news/on-the-ob…
#CarrieLam said postponing the LegCo election is "the hardest decision I have made in the past 7 months" but a "necessary" one to "protect public health, people's lives and guarantee fairness of the election".
