Fear of fear is often experienced as a continuous loop of physical anxiety. It feels as if the nervous system has been jacked up with additional voltage.🔌 ⚡️ In reality it’s just the brain 🧠 interpreting anxiety as an internal problem, a threat. Anxiety is in fact doing it’s…
Little Treatments, Big Effects is on the January 2024 @NextBigIdeaClub must-read list!!! Here's hoping that mental health SSIs are soon so ubiquitous and accessible, that books about them are no longer interesting enough to make lists like this. nextbigideaclub.com/magazine/next-…
When you find out that avoidance of anxiety causes more anxiety, you might blame yourself for "being avoidant." It's not your fault! Avoidance is as natural as anxiety. Hold yourself in kindness, & realize how you were taught to run from feelings. Gradually practice acceptance.
“I still have a long way to go, but I’m already so far from where I used to be, and I’m proud of that.”
As part of #OCDWeek, I’ll be sharing a little about OCD and Trauma on 10/11 at 8pm EST during the @IOCDF Young Adult Meetup. It’ll be (insert term that the cool kids are using 🔥🔥🔥)! iocdf.org/event/iocdf-yo…
It's not often that I talk about the intersection of personal experiences with my research, but made an exception for @ImpostrixPod led by civil rights attorney Whitney Knox Lee, who eloquently discusses racial gaslighting. Her podcast is exceptional! pod.link/1685421021

Got really tired of seeing Bronfenbrenner's bioecological model illustrated only w/ white boys. So we made a new (prettier) version centering Black girls. Please RT & share in your psych classes! Full article on #attachment & #antiracism is open access: doi.org/10.1080/146167…
It’s simple: no child should have to go without the #mentalhealth care they need. We need to take action. Tell the federal government that you support equitable insurance coverage of mental health and #substanceuse disorder treatment ➡️ bit.ly/44FO1fd
Are millennials really "selfish" or are they clear on their values, preferences, and boundaries?
We are hiring a research coordinator (asap), post-doc, and will be taking a new grad student for next fall. Come find us at #EDRS2023 if you’d like to hear more about any of these opportunities!
Job opening alert! The Dept of Psychology here at Northeastern will be holding an open rank search for a new Behavioral Neuro faculty position. We're looking for folks doing exciting research in the addiction sphere. Ad up soon, feel free to email me with any Qs in the meantime!
Diagnosing someone who can barely make ends meet in a job they hate is what made me question the psychology field. Of course they have anxiety or depression symptoms. People can’t be well in survival mode. It’s not the person who is sick, it’s the culture.
It's not "ungrateful" to acknowledge that, while your basic physical needs may have been met, you were also subject to verbal abuse or emotional neglect. "But I wasn't cold or starving like some people" has short circuited recovery for LOTS of legit trauma survivors.
