For small groups to work - small group leaders need to be coached. Too often we say, “Go lead this small group of guys.” We don’t give any training and we don’t check in with them to see how it’s going. This leads to ineffective small groups. Let's turn this around.

Vision often deepens from authentic relationships between leaders and followers. Do you know their family situation or what pressures they face outside of your ministry? Getting to know your team and helping them reach their personal goals is an effective way of instilling vision

Leadership can and should be learned. Any student who owns their faith will step into leadership at some point. The question becomes, “How will they lead?”

The types of leaders that are good at inviting know themselves well. They combine their leadership qualities AND their natural abilities to find unique ways that attract people to the ministries they lead. The Pastoral Skill of Inviting leadertreks.org/?p=136558

Many youth ministries give students an incomplete picture of the Gospel at best. What Disciples Should Know About Scripture leadertreks.org/?p=34450

Do Students Expect Anything from Youth Workers? leadertreks.org/?p=131446 Our best tool to impact students may be surprise. I don’t think they will see us coming. They think they know who we are and what we want from them.

Students are seldom creative. They are obsessed with getting everything right and that drives them to mimic. Mimics don't create, they repeat. They don't explore, think, wonder, or risk.

We can view our volunteers as people to be used to lead the youth ministry or we can look at our volunteers as people to be developed to lead the ministry.

It’s possible that, during this time, your students need their parents more than they need an online youth group.

Most youth ministries are based on the assumption that students don’t want to know more about God, so we package youth group to be a lot of fun with a little God.

Most student leadership programs depend more on the character of the teacher than on the content the students’ study.

A youth worker told me today that in a recent survey of his church congregation, 40% said they won't return to church but will continue to watch online permanently.

Our love for God should inspire us to want to know him deeper. Theology doesn’t need to be stale and crusty; instead, it should be an outlet for us to love the Lord with all our minds and then help our students do the same.leadertreks.org/need-theology-…

Effective leadership has changed because culture has changed. No longer is command and control leadership valued. Instead, leadership empathy is the highest valued characteristic of a leader.

While it’s true that customized programming helps us to meet the unique needs of each generation, our “silo” approach to church ministry has led to separation, competition, and a lack of unity. leadertreks.org/a-church-divid…

Students are usually under the impression that you’re not a leader unless you have a title.

Apathy is a faith problem

Just finished up a really encouraging Refuel Retreat in Destin, Fl. Now flying to Dallas to speak at the Rooted conference #youthministry

Headed to Destin, FL for Refuel - got a full house & I’m excited to co-lead with Andy Lawrenson #leadertreks
