If Public Power NY coalition was more hard-nosed and realistic about technical and financial challenges, they would pivot from absurd 15 GW target to campaigning on NYPA raising funds, in partnership with NYSERDA, to build Clean Path transmission project alone. 1/

Developer and @NYSERDA cancel contract for major clean energy transmission line into New York City subscriber.politicopro.com/article/2024/1…

one thing I realized after organizing on ground for climate for almost 5 years is that there isn’t a strong collaboration between: techno/policy wonks <> advocates (there is even aversion to it) this makes the organizing demands sound like platitudes than concrete & tangible👇🏼

NYPA deserves state funds and better energy market authorities to match its demonstrated ambition—it wants to acquire struggling private projects *and* construct its own projects!—and this ClearPath snafu is a great way for @publicpowerny to continue pushing beyond the BPRA.

Florida will soon realize what climate change does to housing markets.

CNN classified housing markets by affordability. They define "affordable" to mean that the median US household taking out a 30-year mortgage on a median-priced house has enough income to afford 100% or more the cost. Minneapolis and Pittsburgh stand out as good deals to me.

Major findings from an analysis of hundreds of Harris speeches, interviews, rallies etc.: as donors & corporatist consultants took over her campaign, Harris ran less and less as a populist, let alone a progressive one. Link in next tweet.

HOUSE UPDATE Republicans: 220 seats Democrats: 214 seats TBD: 1 seat (CA13, Dems lead) Could be a 220-215 majority, which shrinks to 217-215 early 2025 when you subtract Gaetz, Stefanik, Waltz. The GOP gerrymander in North Carolina (flipped 3 Dem seats) saved their majority.

Can @DemSocialists fix the governance in deep blue cities like NYC, SF and Chicago? This should be the proving ground for them in 2025-2028. To prove good governance and material gains for the community should be an alternative to fascism.

Is there any indication that antitrust is a successful populist issue? Do regular folks care about antitrust?

abundance guys: we need zoning and permitting reform economic populists: yeah we definitely have some areas of agreement here, just not on free trade deals and across-the-board deregulation abundance guys: see! these people don’t care about climate change or affordable housing!

Abundance people are defending themselves by highlighting their broadly popular policies. But they are using these policies as a way to get their foot in the door, to help pass their less popular deregulatory agenda. It’s the same strategy SBF used with pandemic prevention

how many times Harris publicly talk about the most popular provisions in the IRA or ARP? or work by FTC? basically none caving to republican framing of fracking, immigration & continuing Biden’s unpopular foreign policy without distancing herself was always a recipe for disaster

it’s not just that she failed to create any distance, she also refused to embrace any of the populist parts of the administration’s agenda that were popular and could have been effectively messaged. it was the worst of all worlds

This is getting overlooked, but the whole premise of Trump's threat of tariffs is based on a lie. He's claiming Mexico must be bullied into stopping migrants. But Mexico is *already* doing this. That's a big reason crossings have dropped. 1/ (new piece) newrepublic.com/article/188854…
