What an honour it was to be apart of the procession during the the Florence Nightingale Commemoration @FNightingaleF #FNFStudents @KingsNursing @westwood_greta
But we must ensure not too high a proportion of this is sim. It is important to learn to build longer term relationships with patients and families and to learn person centred care that is not over in a short space of time. These are important skills that need practicing.
The government has reiterated calls to reduce student nurses’ practice learning hours from 2,300 to 1,800, as part of its submission to the NHS Pay Review Body. nursingtimes.net/policies-and-g…
We need more mental health beds and we need them to be in the NHS and not the private sector. Nothing else can compensate for this basic deficiency in the English mental health service system.
Mental health patients harmed by being sent to units far from home, report finds | Mental health | “The participants spoke of how their experiences had resulted in feelings of anger, frustration and a loss of trust in the mental health system.” theguardian.com/society/2024/n…
Almost all mental health problems and mental illnesses are more common in autistic people than in the general population. This new publication by @rcpsych is an excellent resource for information and practical matters surrounding autism and mental health rcpsych.ac.uk/mental-health/…
There are now more than 200,000 people waiting for autism assessments in England – that’s more than the population of Reading. This should be a huge wake-up call to the Government to urgently fix this broken system, which lets down autistic people and their families:…
Based on how much I owe in student tuition fees! Thank you @NurseStandard for Dming me regarding this important issue.
"I owe £82,000!" Have university tuition fees gone to far for nurses? rcni.com/nursing-standa…
@theRCN @RCNLondon @alisonleary1 This is how much I owe for my nursing degree + maintenance loan. How is an increase in tuitions fees going to help with the retention crisis within the NHS. In short, it won’t and will only discourage more prospective students from joining.
I hope this story will focus on the absolute necessity for degree level nursing and how this should be supported and facilitated
The government’s increase to tuition fees is wrong. Students shouldn’t have to pay tuition this year, or any year. It’s time to abolish tuition fees and cancel student debt because education is a public good, not a commodity.
Please watch the report in this article We owe it to patients and carers and to bereaved families to do far better to meet the needs of patients with psychosis who pose serious risks when unwell Assertive Outreach works and it should be available to all who need it

Another day. Another stigmatising headline we’ve had to correct. 2 million people are on mental health waiting lists. Let's focus on getting them the support they deserve instead of writing stigmatising articles.
As if we're having to say this in 2024, but we’ll say it again because stigma has real world consequences: 📢 mental health problems are real 📢 the national mental health crisis is real Some recent articles have been lacking facts and evidence, so let us share some (1/6)
It’s been 63 years since suicide was decriminalised in the UK. But so many of us still use the term ‘commit suicide’. Why does it matter? Language that links suicide and crime can increase stigma and prevent people struggling with suicidal thoughts from speaking out. If we…

I have just received a patient complaint because they couldn't get to see me when they wanted to. I was on holiday when they needed me. Healthcare workers are humans. We need rest too. We cannot be on call 24/7. Please, be respectful.
For the first time, anyone in a mental health crisis can now call 111 and receive support from trained mental health professionals. The 24/7 service is available for all ages, including children, providing vital help through a single phone line. england.nhs.uk/2024/08/nhs-11…
