Due to ongoing utility work, south Prairie Street will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday, April 24 through Friday, April 26. Traffic will be detoured through Raddant Road while Prairie Street is closed south of Wilson Street.


The City of Batavia continues to work with Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to investigate foam in Mahoney Creek. The city has learned the substance is a foam used to extinguish liquid fires. It is believed to have been discharged by a local business.


City of Batavia staff are working closely with the Kane County Office of Emergency Management and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to determine what is causing the foam in Mahoney Creek. Please avoid Mahoney Creek and the foam. We will provide updates soon.


Batavia street crews will begin an extra leaf pickup in neighborhoods east of the Fox River beginning 6 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 22.

The Batavia City Council Committee of the Whole discussed the city’s waste hauler contract proposals Tuesday. Council members said they would like to see more affordable waste hauling options. Council asked that proposals be resubmitted. Proposals will be reviewed again 4/25/23.
