Immigrants and refugees contribute 8% of Nebraska's overall economic output and could grow into what policy expert called an “economic powerhouse.” From @cgonzalez_NE nebraskaexaminer.com/2023/05/22/for…

One of the biggest challenges facing our educators is the fact that we are often the last line of defense against a myriad of issues other elements of our community *should* be handling. The middle school these kids go to has been filing reports of child labor since *2016*.

These photos show children working in a Nebraska slaughterhouse – their faces are obscured. The Labor Department found more than 100 children were working in dangerous conditions, some reporting chemical burns. 60 Minutes reports, tonight.

A Nebraska middle school reporting a child with acid burns led to one of the largest investigations into child labor in the U.S. The Department of Labor found children as young as 13 were working overnights cleaning slaughterhouses. cbsn.ws/3B0MCnl

“We did it! LB 626 will not be moving forward. Abortion remains legal in Nebraska. We want to extend an extremely heartfelt thanks to the unceasing work of our community: everyone who called, rallied, and did everything to fight and defeat this harmful ban. #NELeg

Today, enough senators listened to the majority of Nebraskans, stopped LB 626 from becoming law and rejected further restrictions on abortion care. It shouldn’t be this close & Nebraskans shouldn’t have to fight like this for basic rights to have control over their own bodies.

Nebraska, you did it. Every call, email, meeting, green shirt, and trip to the capitol is why abortion access will remain in place. LB626 failed to overcome the filibuster by 1 vote. #neleg

Immigrant children were hired in Grand Island to work the overnight shift cleaning dangerous equipment and using harsh chemicals at a meatpacking plant. Many of the children, if not all of them, are unaccompanied minors, children who came to the US without a parent or guardian.

After the Labor Department descended on a sanitation firm operating at a Nebraska meatpacking plant, the company was fined for violating child labor laws. One of the minor workers has seen her life unravel. wapo.st/3kOI9zx

. ⁦@LaurenKGurley⁩ & I went to Nebraska after the child-labor investigation. We found: Nobody knows if most child workers are safe No criminal charges for the company, but an immigrant dad is in jail. More could follow. Read it here —-> washingtonpost.com/business/2023/…
